I warned you not to go there. Do you have a problem reading or did your father just stick his dick in your eye instead of your mouth? In that case I can understand your way of acting here. It's really pathetic that you have to call me an emo. You have absolutely no idea what's going on in my mind. You are defenitly going through a period of self-denial. The sooner you see you are a little dick that doesn't know what he's saying, the better. then you'll be able to get the fuck out of here and go bother someone else who might care about what you have to say.

@TylerTheNuke: lyrics don't have to be poetry. OK some songs are better when written in proper verses, but the majority of the bands don't do that. If you listen to like 20 metalbands, 10 of em have poetry in their lyrics and 10 of em don't. It also depends on the kind of metal they bring. Slipknot brings a real aggressive form of music, so that doesn't quite go so well with poetry.
I've listend to a lot of metal as well and my taste is still growing. I have to admit there might be bands that I don't know about yet that might be better then slipknot but the music of slipknot suits my life best. That's why I kling to them so hard and probably always will if the people around me don't change drasticly.

Do you know what my first lyrics are from? A band much heavier then slipknot. If you know where any of those lyrics are from without looking them up, then mabye your opinion is somewhat valid. Those lyrics are from three of my all time favorite albums. And about "aggressive" lyrics, there is such a thing as agressive lyrics that are somewhat poetic. Here is yet another example:

you had all of them on your side, didn't you?
you believe in all your lies, didn't you?
the ruiner's got a lot to prove he's got nothing to lose and now he made you
    believe
the ruiner's your only friend well he's the living end to the cattle he
    deceives
the raping of the innocent you know the ruiner ruins everything he sees
now the only pure thing left in my fucking world is wearing your disease
how did you get so big?
how did you get so strong?
how did you get so hard?
how did you get so long?
you had to give them all a sign, didn't you?
you had to covet what was mine, didn't you?
the ruiner's a collector he's an infector serving his shit to his flies
maybe there will come a day when those that you keep blind will suddenly
    realize
maybe it's a part of me you took to a place i hoped it would never go
and maybe that fucked me up so much more than you'll ever know
how did you get so big?
how did you get so strong?
how did you get so hard?
how did you get so long?
    what you gave to me
    my perfect ring of scars
you know i can see what you really are
you didn't hurt me nothing can hurt me
you didn't hurt me nothing can stop me now

Now, I will admit, lyrics aren't a prerequisite to good music. As long as you admit that slipkont's lyrics suck, we are getting somewhere.

I totally disagree, I've been into Slipknot even before I heard about them on the net. When I got into them I only knew one other guy who liked them and he's a social outkast. Realy, I got everybody else I know who likes Slipknot into Slipknot, and those guys are loyal fans who don't change cause a new band comes out.

And yes, Slipknot's lyrics may not have alot of presitge in them, but writing in poetry or not writing in poetry, writing deep or not writing deep, doesn't mean that the lyrics are bad. They are just diffrent lyrical styles. They both convey an emotional message, just in two diffrent ways.

Realy, everybody has their own opinion. I like Slipknot, and so do others. There's probally just as many people who don't like Slipknot. Now I'm not going to say "Your band sucks, listen to Slipknot" cause that's not right.

I say we should talk in more of a way that we are talking about our opinion and not facts. It is not a fact that Slipknot sucks, it is a opinion. Just like if I said a band that you liked sucks, it's not a fact, it's opinion. Maybe if people started treating eachother better this forum wouldn't be such as shithole.

    Rant Over!

OK, I'll humor you, they suck for you, but they suit my situation. Happy that way?
By the kind of metal, I don't mean that heavier metal bands bring diffrent lyrics. Doom metal for instance has real poetic lyrics for instance, while speed metal does not.

I agree, but this was just a grown up discussion between me and TylerTheNuke with reasonable arguments. I can't help it that some ppl refuse to act more mature.
So if you don't mind, I'd like to continue my effort into making Tyler admit he's wrong about slipknot :p

Liking Slipknot doesn't make anyone a wannabe metalhead. I listen to all metal from Bathory to Suffocation, Rawhead Rexx to Vomitory, Rage Against the Machine to Darkthrone.. and I think Slipknot's first album is killer. Just because a bunch of wannabe kids are into a band, it doesn't make them any less of a band. People need to see past a band's fans or popularity and just listen to the fucking music.

By the way, this isn't directed at anyone on here, it's just a general musing.

THANK YOU SON OF NORTHERN DARKNESS! If people based everything off fans no band would be considered good.

This isn't getting anywhere. THe lyrics aren't unpoetic because they are short on fancy words, they are bad because they are bland vanilla crap. Sure, they get emotions across, but so does any other lyrics. There is nothing interesting about them, and they could have been thrown together in 15 minutes. God, how hard can it be to demonstrate? "kill you, fuck you, I don't wanna be you" sucks, no matter how hard you try to justify it. Sure, throw all sorts of postmodern art theory at me, but that doesn't change the fact that the quality of these lyrics is inferior to most other bands. If I can't convince you that the lyrics suck, then how can I prove that the band sucks?

And to whoever said that it is just an opinion, shut the fuck up. Honestly, I just refuted that, and you say the exact same thing with no new reasoning attached. That is bogus, and I hope you guys really know it. Honestly, how dumb are people these days? This debate is stupid.

And, to whoever wants good lyrics, take another ten looks at the five posted above (my four and someone posted a good one). Try, just for the heck of it, to write something like that, and then try to write something like slipknot. Then, post it up here. Say what was more difficult to write.

I'm a musician, and I have wroten both styles of lyrics. Writing both styles of lyrics are equaly hard. You wanna know why? Because you have to write the lyrics your audience, you have to make it sound good, and you have to make it work with the rythms. I can write both, and I can write them equaly well. They're each difficult to right in their own way.

Post them. Let me see for myself. I cannot see anything hard about slipknot's lyrics. Sure, you have to be rythmic, but same with anything. You know the audience, it is a bunch of teenage angst ridden n00bs. All you have to do is talk about hating stuff, mabye throwing in f-bombs to make it all fit the rythems. And you have to make it sound good like slipknot? That can't be hard. Honestly, I would make one up right on the spot, it I have any more time. Mabye tomorrow. Writing poetry will take me days though. Mabye during my poetry unit in creative writing, I'll make some.

Beyond lyrics, slipknot still sucks, imo. I heard duality on the radio today, right before a tool song. The tool song owned the shit out of the slipknot song. Tool had better musicians and was just plain more musical. honestly, "insane is all I got!" did not strike any sort of fear or pity into my heart. The only redeeming feature was the drumming, which was still weaker then the tool song. Here is my bet, if it wasn't for the drummer, the riffs would be less odd timed and more boring, the rythem wouldn't support the guitars, and they would sound exactly like any other mallcore band. If I graded it, I would give it a B-, and an A- for drums. Boring, uncreative, unemotional (I can see right through the fake shit. The lyricist is not insane, I've heard insane lyricists before.), and obviously aimed towards one demographic.

@ sons of northern darkness. Slipknot isn't wannabe metal, I agree. Metal goes to lows like motley crue, linkin park, ect. You aren't wannabe metal by sucking, although I wish that was the case. They are somewhat wannabe good metal though. I can hear veins of originality that would be bad for their popularity if they brought them fully out. And they have some creative moments, but not very many. I'm glad you listen to a lot of bands, but that doesn't make your opinion valid. You seem to have a more valid opinion then other slipknotheads, since you talk about the first one, before they were pressured into dry repitition and trendwhoring. It was an okay CD, but certainly not killer. Save that for something truly special.

I think I am getting near the point where it is pointless to post anymore. Obviously I am not getting through to you people.

Ok enough about those lyrics, every band has good lyrics and every band has bad lyrics. And to prove that slipknot has good lyrics too here are a few

    stapled shut-inside an ouside world
and I’m sealed in tonight-bizarre but right at home
    I’m claustrophobic-closing in
    and I’m catastrophic-not again
I’m smeared across the page and doused in gasoline
    I waer you like a stain-yet I’m the one who’s obscene
catch me up on all your sordid little insurrections
I’ve got no time to lose-I’m just caught up in all the cattle
fray the strings...throw the shapes... hold you breath... listen!

I am the world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
    before I forget that

I’m ripped across the ditch and settled in the dirt
and I wear you like a stich, yet I’m the one who’s hurt
pay attention to your twisted little indiscretions
I’ve got the right to win-I’m just caught up in all the battles
locked in clutch... pushed in place... hold your breath... listen!

I am the world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
    before I forget that

my end, it justifies my means
all I ever do is delay
    my ever attemt to evade
the end of the road and my end
    it justifies my means
all I ever do is delay
    my every attemt to evade
    the end of the road

I am the world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
    before I forget that

    and here's another one

give me the dust of my fathers
stand on the face of the ancients
bare the sacred flesh of time itself

follow me... I’ve come so far, behind again
follow me... I wish so hard, I’m there again
    follow me...

all that I wanted were things I had before
all that I needed , I never needed more
all of my questions are answers to sins
all of my answers are waiting to begin

I know the way but I falter
I can’t be afraid of my patience
there’s a sacred place razel keeps safe

follow me... I’ve seen so much, I’m blind again
follow me... I feel so bad, I’m alive again
    follow me...

all that I wanted were things I had before
all that I needed , I never needed more
all of my questions are answers to sins
all of my answers are waiting to begin

    and yet another one:

Gently, my mind escapes into the relaxing
world of pleasure,a pleasure that'll take
my mind off the reality of my life,
my past life...life as I know it now.

    And whatever may come,it slowly
disappears to somewhere in the back
of my mind.it will remain there,
until I wish to retrieve it.

Yes,I will stay here for awhile,
for I need the break.A break from the
    pressures of life,and everything
that lays in the palm of life's hands.

This mode is incredible. It's out of
this world.Too bad I must always leave it...
    ...but that's life.

and there's more where that came from.

I never said your opinion was less valid then mine. I was complaining that you used the tactic of I listen to lots of music, so my opinion is more valid then if I hadn't. I was disagreeing with that. Of course, everyone thinks that their opinion is more valid then everyone elses, and usually it is in a way, but not in another way. Your opinion can be valid but you can still be wrong, or you can be right. Letssee, how can I make sense . . . Anyone can see the good in a band, therefore they have a valid opinion saying a band is good. All bands have some good in them. The question is, how much good can they see? I see this much good in slipknot, and that much good in opeth. Do I see every single speck of good in either of tose bands? no. Do I see more good in opeth then slipknot? yes. Does that necessairily mean that there is more good in opeth, no. However, the fact is, there is not a subtle side to slipknot, at least not that people mention, so I probably have heard most all the good to slipknot. I could be wrong, but I am probably not. This type of stuff means my probability for error increases the more subtle a band is. Hence, the difficulty in comparing emperor to immortal. THey both have a ton of good to them and it is hard to determine. Not so with slipknot. Either you guys lack fully mature good detectors or I am missing on a lot of subtlety from slipknot.

And Black Core, do you think those lyrics are good lyrics? Nonsense. A lot of it is sophmoric as crap. Rhyming big words is good, sure, but you also want to be clear and coherant. Take another look at the ones I posted on page three. There are no fishy rhymes there. "will no one lay the laurel wreath, as silence drowns the screams" rhymes and owns at the same time. "I’m smeared across the page and doused in gasoline, I waer you like a stain-yet I’m the one who’s obscene" is not really that good.

God, I need to stop wasting time on such big posts

Notice you didnt have one valid arguement in that entire rant. I can tell your getting very sensitive about this, look at how belegerant you are getting.

A period of self-denial huh? I really enjoyed where you copied me and told ME to leave...

This is one of those arguments where nobody will win. Everybody has their opinion, I have mine you have yours, Black Core has his, etc.
