right before I get to the jist of this thread, I want to point out it has a combined double meaning.

On one hand this thread celebrates those of us who have nothing better to do than sit at the computer waiting for someone to post something good on the DT UM forum...

On the other hand it is about the worlds laziest animal... The Sloth!

The combined meaning being... I am bored and lazy, and so are sloths. So I fill my time writing about and thinking about and looking at info about... Sloths!

Sloths are an animal I've only recently realised the beauty of, and can personally appreciate more than any other for their sheer laziness. The fact that they instinctively spend most of the day (and all night) sleeping inspires me. It's like their goal is to lead a care free life of comfort. However, when they are moving... they are adorable!

There's something almost disconcerting about their knowing humanoid faces. look at the way it slowly looks at the camera, grins and then blinks!

Their young are also amazing. Amazing because they are both astonishingly beautiful and, in a way, unnatural and creepy...

I once saw a sloth on tv that was so lazy, instead of using its arms and legs to move along the ground, it used it's face. Honest to god. Kinda dug its chin into the ground and then dragged itself forward using it's long neck and leavering it's head.

Anyway, during my current sloth obsession and coincidentally while I spent an afternoon indulging in the life-style of the sloth :p I conjoured this image: A sloth that flys, but sleeps while it flys!

This may confuse some of you, but if you think about it this picture means more than 15 lazy minutes spent on MSpaint. It represents an ideal lifestyle. Flying through the air without the aid of a machine is a true dream for many, but also being able to feel nothing but content in a state of enlightened relaxation... the mind set of the sloth.

And now... *yawn*... I'm going to bed.

sorry this was in no way DT related.

    I love it's grim face :p

You know in prehistoric times sloths (more bear sloths the two toed or three toed sloths... a less cute mammal of the sloth family) were extremely large? Apparently they were the size of an SUV... The physics confuses me a litte, as being larger will give it a greater center of gravity and thus make it harder to dangle from it's arms for extreme durations of time.

There's a band who write music dedicated to a tribe whose god was an Abominable Iron Sloth... the band is called Abominable Iron Sloth. I own the album. It's teh good! Very riff based and groovey.

EDIT: Its is pretty hilarious if you listen to this band while watching the videos I posted of sloths diddering around :p... which is how I am now going to fill the next five minutes of my life.

a taster of some of the glorious artwork featured in the booklet of the first CD:

I love how the baby sloth just falls asleep. How predictable. :p

And i love the natural eyeliner. Something the human race should learn from.

Heheh there're a lot of sloths around here in Costa Rica *ahem**human ones mostly*.

Although in order to destroy KC's dream, it was discovered that CRn sloths are more active than usual, here's the srticle (it's in Spanish though, sorry):

    http://www.nacion.com/ln_ee/2005/septiembre/28/aldea1.html

It basically says that they are more active than what it was believed because they move like 8km in two months ( :kickass: :worship: :headbang: ).

Yeah, the cool thing is about the eye liner, it comes in different styles and shades :D ... I've seen some truly grim looking sloths.

    This one for instance:

I thought a bit about this, would it be possible to get a Sloth as a pet?

I think in certain parts of the world it is possible to adopt orphan sloths, but you have to be willing to let it go back out into the wild when they become mature. I don't know how you'd go about it, but it would involve a rescue center probably, and they would test you to make sure you were capable.

The other way would be to go look at the black market. I know markets in vietnam sell many exotic animals as pets, illegally of course... I'm not sure where you'd have to go to find a sloth, but I wouldn't be too morally against purchasing a sloth on the black market so long as you are willing to give it the best life you can provide.

I'm bit of a Sloth because I didn't go to work today. By that I don't mean that I'm gonna post pics of myself hanging on a tree with corpsepaints.

I'm a sloth today because I fell asleep on the bus and dropped my book. I'm doing three presentations at uni and I'm looking forward to getting home and sleeping.
