Hm... this is a tough one, I've gone thru so many stages where I was really into a specific
    guitarist .

I have to agree with Azal on the guthrie thing, he is a ripping player but I think "Erotic Cakes" absolutely sucks ass .
It's got no fire to it and it's boring as hell, which is shocking to me because he is so f'n good.:worship:
I've gone thru periods where it was
    all Satch,
    all, Vai,
    all Gilbert
    all Vinnie Moore
    all Greg Howe
    all Loomis
    all Jason Becker
    all Kotzen
all Yngwie (that one was short)
    and all Tony Macalpine
but If I could only listen to one, it would probably be Greg Howe, years later he's still my favorite,
and to me still the most interesting to listen to,
he ain't metal but he sure has great phrasing and cool tunes.

the solos he rips in this one are ridiculous (this whole CD is amazing)

Parallax is a grat Cd too
the groove and solo at the 2:00 minute mark is great.

We can't "quote" a post we agree with and just repost it, so we have to throw 1 character in. I guess the period is just adding "this is the definite conclusion" to it.

And, since you probably don't know of that guy ^(Marino)
I'll list a second choice which ties with Iommi, IMO.

Addendum to the Super serious answer:
That goes for all future posts that don't say Frank Zappa.

Frank Marino is a bad ass player. He ws one of my earliest influences.
I saw Mahogany Rush at the Boston Garden when I was in High school.
they completely destroyed Ted Nugent that night (Nugent ws the headliner).

FZ is the correct answer, but Jimi Hendrix is, in fact, the greatest electric guitarist to ever live.

Will, listen to Band of Gypsys and STFU.

good! I like my musicians to be like Andy Sneap records... typical, unenthusiastic, and bland.
