2009 wasn't a great year for me...2010 should be with bands like Symphony X and Circus Maximus releasing new material.

And maybe if the new Wintersun...

Gah, I'm tired of having any hope on that. Let's just go with the idea that it will never be released and atleast I MAY be positively surprised one day...

TRI Offensive - Self titled. This is an absolutely amazing J-fusion album! I can't stop listening to it.

    Wobbler - Afterglow

Derek Sherinian - Molecular Heinosity. Only because of the trilogy, though..

Panzerballett - Hart Genossan Von Abba bis Zappa

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes. I love the dark, trippy direction he took with this. I even like it more than the new PT CD.

PT - The Incident. Very good, but I'm pretty sure Drawing the Line is one of the worst PT songs I have ever heard.

I still have to get the new Translatantic, The Tangent and few others yet.

Impellittery`s Wicked Maiden was top notch, if you don`t mind the production.

But 2009 has been an OK year for me, even with Endgame (which I liked, but didn`t brought anything really new)

List your 2-3 top bands instead of just your one favorite so it's easier to make a list out of which bands get the most nominations :p

Oh right, here's a +1 for Sonata Arctica also. Forgot about that one. Quite a surprise, thought they went shit for good.

Haven't heard the new Sonata Arctica CD yet, I take it it was good? I'm surprised that Design Your Universe hasn't come up yet, I loved it.

Failure of threads fucking wins for mentioning Kiko's new one. "Se Entrega, Corisco!" is one of the best songs I've heard in a looong time.

And Zach, I'll make sure to introduce you to Gates of Slumber's drummer in 3 days. Hands down the coolest guy on this tour. 'Cause he's not a black metal douche, haha,

Hourglass ( Oblivious to The Obvious )

Animals As Leaders ( ST )

Redemption ( Snowfall On Judgement day )

I personally think Hourglass's masterpiece is my album of the year.

new clutch was good, i'm gonna check out new katatonia with high hopes. enjoyed addicted. nothing released this year has been a band's career best though- clutch record had a coupla weak tracks, devy's done better, mastodon released a record high on ambition and lacking in riffs/excitement, with not enough good songwriting to count as a great prog album. nile attempted to gain some new ground but didn't top their older releases. alice in chains' record was really, really good but it's not Dirt/Tripod, more a new start. not a classic year imo. but as ever, great records/ great bands from this year will be uncovered in years to come as those bands grow and gain in following.

I'll say it again, in response to fps's post:

Dredg - The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion = career best.
