    Awakenings — Too easy.
    Rediscovery pt.2 — Too easy.
Iconoclast — Tough decision. I'm kinda bored with EoF and Iconoclast is still fresh and fun to listen to. My favorite from their newest record. But (without having looked at the posts above yet) I'm sure most of the active posters here will pick EoF. Not that I don't love it but I've never been as much of a huge fan of this song as you guys.
    Masquerade — Yep! :headbang:

Right on; I think Church is an amazing song! I wish they'd play it live more often, since it has a great energy.

He's always had a boner for Serpent's Kiss. I'm pretty sure he thinks it's like the best song on Paradise Lost or something.

    1. Awakenings. I love the mystic mood of A Winter's Dream, and imo it's one of their best from Damnation Game. Shame it came up against such a great song as Awakenings, which is possibly in my top 10 of SX songs. There's not a single bad moment in this track (this applies to many of SX's songs btw); I love the lyrics, I love Lepond’s bass in the intro, the chorus is great, and let’s not forget the fact that Sir Michael Pinnella absolutely slays on this track. The jazz-part in the middle of the interlude and the following solo is enough prove for that.

    2. Rediscovery Pt.II. No contest. Serpent’s Kiss is an average song from a decent album; Rediscovery is one of the best songs from their masterpiece(or from their whole career). I love how the song so smoothly change “mood”, from the mellow to the more heavy (but still groovy). The whole song is just flawless, really, from the awesome polyrhythms going on in the intro to the epic ending. They must play this one live someday…..

    3. Edge of Forever. A bit tough, since Iconoclast actually is one of the best songs from that album. Reminds me a bit about Evolution in the beginning, and though it unfortunelately suffers from a rather “meh” chorus (“ We are strong, we will stand and fight”? Come on guys….), it has a lot of energy and a quite decent solo part (with a keyboard solo as well!)

EoF is one of the best from DG, and is a great tune. The atmospheric intro, going over to Romeo playing staccato chords, Pinnella underlying synth chords, and Miller’s “plucky” bass lines, before eventually fading into the beautiful “Pictures of what used to be..”-part. Which is followed by a great polyrhytmic part, with the guitars playing the same power chord in 5/4, while Pinnella starts playing a melody line in 6/4. Love it.

    4. Smoke and Mirrors. A good song, though far from their best, both in their catalogue and on Twilight, where I prefer Church, Orion and the Looking Glass. Still gets the nod over Masquerade.

    Up with the results.

    Awakenings beats A Winter's Dream pt. 1 17-0
    Rediscovery pt. 2 beats Serpent's Kiss 16-1
The Edge of Forever beats Iconoclast 14-3
Smoke and Mirrors beats Masquerade 10-7

In a group full of excellent songs, the sole unanimous victory goes to Awakenings. Smoke and Mirrors wins the closest contest, which might have something to do with the fact that I picked the original Tyler version of Masquerade. Rediscovery, meanwhile, has quite a tough couple of rounds ahead of it- the random placement seems to have put it in with some of SX's best songs.

And now for the next four.

    1. The Accolade II (No contest.)

    2. Frontiers (This one was pretty tough, as I don't particularly care for either song. Frontiers is very different-sounding for SX, but at any rate I can't stand several portions of Pharaoh, not least of which is the terrible, forced-sounding chorus.)

    3. The Raging Seasons (Another extremely tough one, due to me not caring for either. Raging Seasons is slightly better from a musical perspective, but suffers from a pretty serious case of Rod Tyler. Lords on the other hand is blatant Pantera worship, and pretty dull all around. The ultimate deciding factor is that the former has more variety, such as some shifts in dynamics, the awesome choir portion before the solo, etc.)

    4. Orion - The Hunter (This song has grown on me a bit, and while I still find it a little dull in some parts, it's more than a match for Savage Curtain.)

    1. Thorns is actually one of my favorite songs from the debut (I can imagine Russell sounding great singing it), but it stands no chance against one of the band's most heartfelt songs.

    2. I think Pharaoh is one of the obvious fillers from Divine Wings, along with Witching Hour. The chorus is kind of cool, and the bass leads are great, but the song just plods along with no real hook or purpose. Frontiers, by comparison, is one of the band's most unique tracks, and showcases pretty much every member with standout parts. No contest.

    3. This is a tough one, since I dislike both songs. Raging is too cheesy, and Lords is definitely one of the many filler offerings from Iconoclast. However, there's a few cool riffs in there (the bridge that sounds like Gates of Babylon), and the pre-chorus is nice. Great dissonant solo, too. I have to give the edge to Lords.

    4. Considering that I find Savage Curtain to be amongst the filler of Damnation Game, whereas Orion amongst the best from Twilight, this one is easy. The only thing I really like about the former track are the cool bass parts before the verses, and the only thing I dislike about the latter is that its solo section drags on for far too long.

The Accolade II(one of the very few sequels out there that's on par with the original)
Pharaoh(among my fave Russ verses and for that cathartic middle section alone, Frontiers is great though and I wish the band had gone more in this direction than with the PL/IC sludge)
The Raging Seasons(Lords of Chaos is just a flat song)
Orion- The Hunter(that solo section is sick)

    Accolade II - obvious

Frontiers - Is an album-worthy song really. Pharaoh is alright, but loses this one.

The Raging Seasons - It's just more interesting than Lords of Chaos, which is probably one of the more useless tracks of Iconoclast.

Orion the Hunter - Neither Savage Curtain or this are among my favourites off of their respective albums and I don't expect this song to get very far in this tournament, but it is still a pretty good track.

    Accolade II - no contest.
    Frontiers - no contest.
Lords of Chaos - hard to pick, both songs are pretty pathetic.
Orion - a better song all around.

Accolade II - One of my favorite Symphony X songs

Frontiers - Pharaoh never fully grabs my attention and Frontiers is a very cool and unique track.

The Lords of Chaos - Perhaps other around here around familiar with Richie Blackmore's Rainbow but the section around 3:45 busts into a nearly identical melody to Gates of Babylon and is a fantastic Dio homage. I dig the rest of the song too but this section makes it awesome in my book.

Orion - Some very cool instrumental parts in this song that blow away Savage Curtain

Edit: Just saw Detective mentioned something similar for Lords. Very cool section of the song!

Pharaoh, this was very close since I really like both.

The Lord of Chaos, basically a coin flip since I don't like either...

Orion, I remember not liking this at all when I first heard this, but now I love it!

Accolade II, Frontiers, The Raging Season(s?), Orion

I don't think I've ever actually managed to finish listening to Lords of Chaos...

    1. Accolade II. No contest, as they say. A lovely song with a nice adventurous mood, and possibly one of the best solos from MJR. Possibly in my top 10 list.

    2. Frontiers. I’ve always thought it’s a pretty decent tune, a bit untraditional as others have said, but still quite good. Good verse, nice chorus, and you can’t but love the funky bass at 3:25. All in all a rather underrated song.

Pharaos is one of the weakest tracks on DWOT, though it’s still decent. It has some cool riffing in the intro, and the verse is not too bad either. I also like the part at 2:07. It’s the chorus which kinda drags it down, it just sounds a bit “amateur”-ish to me.

    3. Lords of Chaos. Not a big fan of either. But listening to Lords, it does actually have a decent interlude/solo, plus the pre-chorus is not too bad either. Raging Seasons don’t do much for me (though, as said, none of them are top of my books).

    4. Orion the Hunter. One of their most underrated songs imo. I’ve always enjoyed it; the clear, bright keyboards ( which is being used quite a lot on this album, in songs like Looking Glass and Church.) coming in after the opening guitar riff, the pre-chorus,and of course, the awesome interlude/solo section.

Savage Curtain I’ve always found to be one of the weakest tracks on Damnation Game, so this was an easy one to be fair.

Fuck, it looks like Pharaoh is going to lose. To be fair, I'm glad it's to Frontiers and not to any of the unmelodics on IC or PL.
