Anyone else here think the mona lisa is terribly ugly?

 

That's what I meant. I was going to pull out people like Stephen Hawking and such.

 

If you've ever looked at a painting on a computer screen, and then saw the same one in real life up close, you'd know what I'm talking about.

 

Metal posters look so much better on one's wall then on a computer screen.

 

I agree that artists possess some areas of thought processes that many non-artists do not have an aptitude for or have not developed to the same degree. But I am not sure I would call it intelligence. Or if I did, I would distinguish it as being a different kind of intelligence. There are plenty of artists who may be brilliant and excel at creating, but cannot make ends meet and are not willing to do what's necessary to make a living like the rest of society. This could be seen as a lack of intelligence. I know it's a choice, so I am not saying it is a lack of inelligence, but neither will I say an artist is more intelligent than a hard working individual with skills that are in an area more in line with making money. But I am glad that there are people who have a drvie to create art.

 

Are you talking about the woman in the painting or the painting as a whole?? If you're talking about the painting you're "terribly" mistaken.

 

If "making ends meet" means sacrificing the time to be able to paint and produce their work-----Which takes A LOT OF TIME, then fine. I guess we're stupid. But it's a very frustrating life to live when you don't have enough time or energy to paint because you've just come home from your 9-5 office job...As I am doing every day now.

I wish I had more time to paint.

No, read my post again. I am not calling it stupid, I am just saying it is not fair to call other intelligent people less intelligent than artists because their skills lie in other areas.

 

It's still subjective, but less so to people more versed in art than I am (which is not at all).

Yeah, Stephen Hawking is nowhere near stupid. Same goes for Warren Buffett.

Isn't it true that when painting the Mona Lisa Da Vinci inserted some of his own facial features into the painting? Some say that he actually painted the feminine side of himself.

I draw shit on loose sheets of paper whenever I'm particualrily moved. How does that make me different then some bitch with a canvas and oil paints?

 

I'm all for subjectivity, trust me, it's what my profession is based on. But when some little shit "metalhead" on the internet tries to call DaVinci's most famous work of art as "terrible" I'm sorry but I am NOT going to stand up for his right to be a fucking second-rate low-life.
