    Hi everybody. *waves* Well I'm trying to expand my black metal horizons. Often people recommend bands to me (or I see bands recommended in other threads), but I don't know what songs to download to see if I like the band. So I was hoping that you could all try to fill in this list for me, so that I can give every band a true shot by sampling their best work! And maybe this will help other people as well, you never know...

    Can't help with Black metal but I know Atheist is not black metal.......they death metal mixed with jazz.....excellent but not Black metal

    Mayhem should be on there if you're going for black metal:

    Here are my favs by Mayhem:

    -De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Get everything off this album. It's one of the best black metal albums ever, I think).

    omfg... how can u mention black metal and not mention the original black metal band...

    VENOM


    Fintroll isnt really 100% black metal. They are Folk/Black metal, cool band, but not true black metal.

    Also, As Spirit In Black pointed out, Atheist isnt black metal. Its like Thrash/Death, awsome band but not black metal.

    I cant really give a black metal list, i dont really like black metal. The only black metal bands I like are Venom, Emperor, Immortal, and Fintroll (if you want to count them as black)

    Definitely my favorite. If you haven't listened to them do it. "As the Angels Reach the Beauty" is my favorite album of theirs but "Scourge of Malice" is right up there with it. I also enjoy the newest "Engraved in Black" but not as much as the others. Still amazing though.

    Arg...I had heard people say Atheist was black metal. Oh well.

    Yeah I have some Graveworm stuff, they aren't bad, but I find that their songs aren't centralized enough (ie no one key riff or verse or wtv pulls it all together). They have some good stuff, though.

    Mayhem, Dissection, check.

    I've heard some Venom and I can't really get into it. And yeah I know Finntroll isn't exactly black metal, but it's black enough to give it a shot I think.

    Woah thanks Frost-Shatraug, I'll give those songs a try. I've already heard Mortality Passion and the begining is so good...I really tried to get to like it. But I must say that they miss the mark often here, and they could just as well not have recorded a good two minutes of the song that only served to take make it longer. :/

    LOL i got yelled at about Venom.

    Yeah, Venom isnt actually black metal, I know this. I listed them tho because they are usually listed as a black metal band because they were the first ones to use the term.
