So... we're essentially just having the same Old vs. New argument which has dominated 90% of In Flames discussion for about 10 years?

Oh well, I genuinely thought that SOAPF was so different to any release post-Reroute that it might have made people see things differently. Guess I was wrong...

Don't laugh at me, it's not my words, it's a direct quote. I'm just the messenger ^^ Btw the Disconnected lyric line joke is not at all getting old or boring.

Unfortunately releasing SOAPF does not erase STYE or ASOP from their history. It's like pushing an old lady down the stairs, twice, then later helping her across the road (whilst showing no remorse for your horrific past actions) and saying "see, I'm good now". No, you're still an asshole for what you did before, fuck you :D

Well then he isn't laughing at you, is he?

I'm glad you are still amused by it bro :D I'll have to use it more often.

You really remind me of WeAreInFlames, you're like a clone, which isn't really something positive.

Dude, I think you just got troll'd hard.

I also have to say that STYE is way better than SOAPF, now that some time has passed. At least I want to listen to STYE every once in a while, whereas I havent listened to SOAPF in months, nor do I want to.

You are such a dick DTB! SOAPF is waaaaay better than shitty, boring, emo wannabe STYE. Why can't you and Krofi talk some sense once in a while?

STYE at least still has a bit of that raw energy to it. SOAPF sounds too fucking happy quite often, and overall songs are a lot less memorable. I'm making myself listen to it right now, and the only song that I actually want to listen is Fear is the weakness.

Well, I must admit that is true... They are either too whiny or too happy these days. Pop music with distortion.

Don't see your arse Krofi :D I remember WeAreInFlames... I argued with him a number of times, so if I'm a clone of him then I'm a bad one :D

I don't hear too many "happy" moments on SOAPF. Where are they? ASOP had a "happier" lead sound to it, but still had a lot of heavy parts. So one album (the second from last) being more "happy" in terms of sound makes them too happy these days?

I don't know about raw energy, but STYE is just plain boring to me. Not enough memorable riffs, although Anders harsh vocals on that album are pretty good IMO. I don't really hear 'happiness' on SOAPF, though I do think it's far more melodic than STYE (that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned, though).

Having had some time to consider the new album in relation to their overall catalogue I'd probably rate as:

    Clayman
    TJR
    Colony
    Whoracle
    R2R
    Come Clarity
    SOAPF
    Lunar Strain/Sub

    STYE

    ASOP

Take atmosphere from R2R, production from CC, melody from SOAPF, screams from STYE and....nope, nothing from ASO(no)P... and there you have it, one decent album on par with Whoracle.

DE4life, I don't complete agree with your order but I do like your use of spacing. A88, I like ASOP but you're right, even though it is different, there really is nothing special about it that stands out. I think all their albums are really good, but each has something that stands out a little more than most of their albums, like you said.

The happiest thing they ever wrote was on TJR though... I don't think SOAPF sounds particularly happy... or whiny for that matter.

    I think my rankings go:

    The Jester Race
    Clayman
    Whoracle
    Sounds of a Playground Fading
    Colony
    Come Clarity
    Subterranean
    Reroute to Remain
    Lunar Strain
    Soundtrack to Your Escape
    A Sense of Purpose

What song is this? I think Swim is pretty happy sounding. It uses a lead guitar sound for most of the riffs. It is definitely a lot different than the rest of Clayman in my opinion.

Wayfaerer (or at least half of it) sounds bloody euphoric. I love it though, it's like they ended a really dark album on a high note (I still think Dead God In Me is just an afterthought).

I agree with Swim being the most upbeat thing on Clayman, but it's a great song so I don't really see the problem with it, I don't listen to In Flames to intentionally make myself depressed, and ironically the people who complain about the songs sounding too "happy" are often the same people who complain about stuff being too "emo." What is just the right amount of sadness (Satellites and Astronauts, I suppose when I think about it.)

I listen (or used to listen to) a lot of power metal so I quite like the 'happy' or upbeat, more melodic sound. It is probably what drew me to N'Flamez originally.
