Some Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern folk/classical music- mainly because I like the sound of the instruments.

But it would still be 95% metal and hard rock.

As far as bands go, probably The Beatles. I used to hate them when I was an angsty teenage HARDCORE METAL HEAD HAIL \m/ dick, but now I'm a massive Beatles fan... At least as far as Revolver and later goes. Like everyone else has said, 80s pop is awesome. Don't mind the mid 90s pop I grew up with either, No Doubt and Garbage and shit like that. I've also fallen in love with ambient and electronic music in the last year.

Oh I could list stuff forever; The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Iron and Wine, Fuck Buttons, Kaki King, etc. I would get so bored just listening to metal.

At first I had it in mind this was the 'metal band you like least' thread, lol.

Possibly should be named the guilty pleasures thread - one of mine?

    Placebo.

Dunno what it is about their sound, most Metallers would loathe them but I don't for some reason

I never really thought about Placebo that much until I saw one of their concerts on some pay channel. They were fucking amazing!

One of their live shows gets played on TVS every now and then.

I've seen them live a few times - thoroughly enjoyed every show.

Hmmmm I don't really listen to anything that doesn't have guitars. R.E.M. would be the softest band I own albums of.

You into the turbo folk? I hated that stuff before I came over here, but one night out drunk of my nuts and with the right company you can really enjoy it as it goes off. Still have trouble listening to it sober due to the singing.

Not so much into the turbo stuff as much as the trad side.
Even then, I'd much prefer some stoned out 70's and 80's pop/prog rock from the Yugo region.

Neko Case would have to be the least metal artist I like.

I'd like to replace her bassist when he dies.

can't believe no one has mention the incredible Dead Can Dance
one of the best non-metal groups out there if you like various styles and strong vocals

listen to a lot of non-metal stuff
Japanese Visual Kei bands such as X-Japan, Versailles & Ali Project
blues and old school Rhythm & Blues (proper R&B). Love artists such as Hound Dog Taylor and Seasick Steve
    classical & orchestral -can't beat Beethoven's 9th Symphony
lots and lots of soundtracks - Basil Poledouris (Conan, Robocop), Nobuo Uematsu (the Final Fantasy games and their orchestral versions as well)
Aussie folk - Eric Bogle and Ted Egan are amazing. shame it's so hard to get hold of Ted's albums these days
and groups like Portishead, Massive Attack, Gorillaz
lots of old rock bands -especially near forgot Aussie ones
and a few guilty pleasure 80's New Romantic and goth bands
recently been getting back into Goth-a-billy and Psycho-billy

the classics never go away :headbang:
