I wonder why is Kalmah named Kalmah, and not for example Kalma....it would be more finnish kind of name? So whats the "h" doing in the end of the name? And Where did you Kalmah members get the idea for that kind of name?

As a word Kalmah is taken from the Karelian dialect. It is a relative language to Finnish with lots of same words. This language is fading but there is still people in the Karelian area and along the border of Finland and Russia who speak it. It means "to the grave" in English :)

    It goes something like this...

"1999 the name was changed from Ancestor to Kalmah, why this?

When I joined Ancestor myself, the band had already recorded two tapes, and after I joined we recorded four songs more, after that we started thinking what was wrong cause we cuoldn’t get a record deal. We were quite pissed. At the same time I noticed there was a band named Antestor and the similarity is quite obvious. Kalmah was found, when Pekka and I were starting a blackmetal project and we were looking for a name from the Karelian dialect. We found the word Kalmah, which suited us very well. Things started going well and we replaced the name Ancestor with Kalmah. At the same time we also hired a keyboard player and our style went to more “killer” and melodic direction. We decided to start “from a clean table” once more and bury the name Ancestor for good."
