1. Just a heads up... In the next week or two we will be making some major upgrades to the site to bring the software and server fully up to date. While the upgrade happens the site will be offline for the day. There will be some quirkiness after the upgrade, but we'll get it all sorted out.

Seeing as height wise, I 'fly' lower, that's not quite what I meant.

Every time I load the last page of this thread I get a thumbs up from you flying. Bad joke, I know.

Ouch, this has never happened to me, even mirrors that are a bit too high are usually manageable. I really thought your picture was a joke and that you took it from below. :ill:

One of the advantages of being a short female is the unlimited range of guys i can get, even when i state that i want someone taller than me. I really pity my tall friends who say the same. :heh:

hehe no, i took it pointing directly in front of me, it was from an hotel in slovakia, the other uber mirror was in the toilet of the hotel's restaurant in czech republic. surprisingly enough in holland i didn't have troubles with mirrors, even if on average i barely reached the shoulder of the people in the streets.

, what? Ive never seen anything like that here, but I can imagine some hotels here having mirrors that high.

@ MagSec: We have almost every American TV show here with German synchronisation which is usually not bad but not as good as the orginal English speaking voices and we have them about a year later on TV. I download most of the series from the internet though so I can watch them in English.

Drawn Together is an awesome show. I don't think there is a show with a better humor. I also currently watch Heroes.

Drawn Together was alright for the first couple of episodes, but then it got old. Over the top stops being over the top when it's done every show. If you want comedy (albeit a bit dry) watch Flight of the Concords on HBO, hilarious.

Dont know if people still remember me, but I have a contribution to make for once. DS and I moved to another city and stuff, where Im beginning my main studies, specialising on airplane engines. The awesome thing is, there is an institute for airplane engines, where I had to go and take several pics. There are maybe 8 engines like that standing around in the institute and Im totally fascinated by them. My teachers are pretty cool, too, two of them worked for the MTU, the last german airplane engine manufacturer. It's pretty cool to have teachers with such experience and authority. So here come the photos:

Photo 1, this is the exhaust nozzle of an RB199 engine, used in Tornado military jets

Photo 2, in the back the fan of a Pratt and Whitney PW2037 engine, used in the Boeing 757 and a Roll Royce Tyne Mk 515 Turboprop engine.

Photo 3, another engine.. dont know what model this time though

z0mg!

I'd like to add to the discussion of buildings and heights in the "links" thread, but I figured this was the more appropriate place.
These are some of the pictures I took on top of the new Bank of America tower construction in Manhattan, NY.
One of my friends is an "ironworker" on the project and invited me to have a look. I was lucky to get to see it. This is the best view of Manhattan anyone can get now, or will be able to get for a very long time. At the top I was just standing on steel beams, since it's the earliest stage of each floor as they go up, and there are no rails or anything to keep you from just falling off the building (unlike in the video of the Burj Dubai), so you have an amazing view in whichever direction you turn.

EDIT: It's really tiny, but you can see the Statue of Liberty far in the distance, on the right.

@Mags: That's insane. You wouldn't happen to know how high that's going to be when it's completed?

Mags: does that building effect the skyline? Because I may have seen you :p. NYC is <20 miles from my campus and I look at the skyline every day because the view is great from my floor (I live on the twelfth floor of the tallest building on campus). Great pictures by the way.

edit: In retrospect, that was foolish. I meant to ask where it was in the skyline, not whether or not it could be seen :p. It seems if it were that tall it'd be obvious.

edit 2: I am southwest of NYC, I believe, if that matters. I suppose I could simply just look all this up, but firsthand experience is much more interesting.

edit 3: I just wiki'd it, and I could probably just find it on my own now. Thanks anyway.
