Kids: The Oral History of the Most Controversial Film of the 90's - Pretty astounding piece (a rarity for Rolling Stone) featuring insights from Larry Clark, Harmony Korine, Leo Fitzpatrick, Rosario Dawson, Chloë Sevigny along with some folks involved with the distribution of the film. Its a long one but well worth the time. Cliché as it sounds, I really can't believe Kids is 20 years old already.

If anyone has any recommendations of movies with creepy dolls Id be really grateful. It could also be episodes too. For a cool project, but unfortunately my knowledge of American horror is extremely limited.

    This looks bad ass!

The Revenant | Official Teaser Trailer [HD] | 20t…: http://youtu.be/QRfj1VCg16Y

Based mainly on frontiersman Hugh Glass from the early 1800s. Until recently, I've never heard of this guy before. Seems like an amazing character / story from what I've briefly looked into.

Black Devil Doll from Hell has to be one of the most bewildering movie experiences ever. Just the simple fact that it exists pleases me greatly. Preferably, your first time watching it should be by accident. Like you went to the video store (this scenario takes places in the early 90's) and rented something else but the tape you wanted was accidently put in another box and you unknowingly got Black Devil Doll from Hell instead. So you put the tape in and right away notice its not what you thought you had rented and immediately think "What the fuck is this?!". Yet you can' stop watching. You're utterly transfixed.

I don't get you two lol. I respect ya, you guys rec some great stuff, but that just seems so goofy and absurd. How could you watch that for more than 10 minutes? ha

I guess OM explained it. Its more about the experience I suppose. I'd need beer and drugs and people and a hug

You just said it  Of course its sheer lunacy but its what makes it such a fun watch. I'd also like to say, and I say this in a completely serious manner, there is something inspiring about all that shot on video stuff from the 80's. A lot of those guys had no training in filmmaking whatsoever. They just had passion and access to relatively affordable new technology that made shooting something possible and they went for it. There's something to be said for that even if the results were abysmal. Black Devil Doll is a rare example where I can look past the innumerable technical flaws and get legitimate enjoyment out of it due to its batshit nature.

Eh, I don't really have any "favorites" per say. Most of the SOV stuff tends pull the rug out from underneath themselves in one way or another. Sometimes its unintentional, I mean clearly you're not going to get perfection shooting on VHS tape but there are some which appear to have been made shitty on purpose.

There are some that are well done considering the format like Video Violence (1987) and Screen Kill (1997) AKA Snuff Kill.

Others like Sledgehammer (1983) and Demon Queen (1986) are ridiculous fun and then there's a movie like Boardinghouse (1982) which much like Black Devil Doll From Hell is one of those has to be seen to be believed type of things. What makes that one more special is that despite being shot on video, one of the first SOV horror films actually, it played in theatres!

Its funny to think that a lot of these movies are now out on DVD but there's been a resurgence of sorts given the semi-recent hipster fetishization of VHS tapes which leads to some of the original copies of the films selling for retarded prices on eBay. Like in the $700 range.

Blood Lake (1987) and Woodchipper Massacre (1988) are two more check your brain at the door SOV horrors but both are bit meandering. There was one summer where I sort of burnt myself out on those type of flicks. I got kind of fascinated with the history of them. There was a point and time where it seemed like an underground "movement" of sorts.

Oh you'll be transfixed by some of those SOV titles albeit for all the wrong reasons with some of them ;)In all seriousness though, the majority of them are good fun regardless of quality.

Ever since finding out about Paul Verhoeven's new movie slated for next year I've been slowly going back through my PV collection. Today's film was Basic Instinct (1992) which still works like a charm. An icy blonde, bisexual, psychotic, totally slutty charm. It may only be 23 years old but nonetheless it seems like its from an era long past, when Hollywood would actually back something with balls, something that pissed people off to the point of protest. It may be cliché to say but a film like this just couldn't get made today in the studio system what with the culture being so hypersensitive and PC.
