That poster for Color Out of Space is still the best thing about that whole movie.
I wish the movie spent less time on the family dynamics and more on the conceptual and aesthetic weirdness. Not really a spoiler, but in case some want to watch before coming to their own conclusion:
I get that Stanley was going for a Poltergeist effect with the creature's lightning ability, but I think it clashed with the Annihilation-inspired aesthetic, and made the whole visual style feel a bit unbalanced. Generally speaking, I'd say that the visual effects, although mostly enjoyable, felt like a hodgepodge of dated '70s/'80s techniques and a more atmosphere/environment-driven diegesis. Those two things didn't always sit well together.
Tomorrow War was fun
Army of the Dead was great, can't wait for more stuff in that world.
Really cant remember what else I've watched
This looks interesting
That looks awesome.
Actually the Melbourne International Film Festival in general looks so awesome I was thinking about flying over but a new covid outbreak will likely put an end to that. Aside from the usual Cannes releases, they are showing a bunch of obscure folk horror movies including Lair of the White Worm.
Julia Ducournau's Raw was fantastic. Been putting it off for ages but after Challenge's post I decided to commit and stream it. Garance Marillier is like this generation's Charlotte Gainsbourg imo, she has a lot of guts.
I echo Challenge's words about it, also so many great and disturbing moments. I'll be tracking this down on blu ray asap so I can watch it again but on my big screen.
Glad you liked it.
Where did you stream btw? I saw it on Shudder which has a decent catalogue although I'm yet to be convinced by their original material. The Dark and the Wicked probably the pick for me so far.
It's been on Stan for some time. I don't have Shudder, I really should get it.
Raw is on Tubi
A24 doubling down on the folk horror...
You should have quoted this part:
A new folk horror with Rapace? Fuck yes I'm interested.
Awesome that the new Julia Ducournou film won the Palm Dog
sorry if you already know this but the palm dog has been an actual thing for like 20 years lol
I guess Noomi Rapace should be flattered to hear she was a contender for the best dog award.
showbusiness is a tough business, you take what you can get.
Anyone here seen black widow yet??
Going to renew Disney+ soon, pretty keen to see it tbh.
