Ah, fuck it...what the hell... Yeah, you damn well read that right! Yet ANOTHER Opeth thread based on their songs, I know, I know. But hey, I've been inspired after reading the recent "favourite songs" thread and after reading some of the comments have decided to create THIS thread on a HUGE scale...but it all depends on the forum members in order for this to work, of course. Here's the deal - some stated before that in the poll contest the song polls could have gone either way due to how close the battles came out to be in the end. Some stated how the list was somewhat flawed. So, this is why I became so influenced in the following idea to compile MY OWN version for the contest - yeah, yeah, I have nothing better to do for the time being. In any case, read these rules I have set out; - *I am hoping for AT LEAST 100 responses for this to work* - post your TOP 20 BEST songs from OPETH (or to make things easier, songs that BEST rou8nd up Opeth as a band to you) - take the time you need to compile the lists but some may already know right off the bat. For me, I always knew that BLEAK, APRIL ETHEREAL and THE MOOR were my favourites ever. - please, PLEASE - if interested in this (it's just an idea I have for the fuck of it) - ONLY post your lists in this thread, nothing else - just edit your post if something needs to be added. It will make things MUCH easier in the end tallying up all the points.... -...and points is where this is all heading. For every 1st place choice on each list, the song will earn 20 points. 2nd=19 points. 3rd=18 points. 4th=17 points. 5th=16 points. So, I think you get the idea with this. And that's basically the gist of it. Yes, yes I know this all sounds crazy and many may feel that a REALLY great song near the end of the list isn't getting enough points - yeah, it sucks because lets face it, ALL THE SONGS KICK ASS (imo, they do anyway.) I think most of us can agree to that. But, this is hardly going to be the most ACCURATE list on the face of the planet. NOTHING ever will be. But, again, it'll give the most freedom of choice. I think out of all the options, it's the most efficient way to go about it. And in the end, it's just for kicks. For shit's and giggles and endless debates. What else would be the point of these damn things, right? So, for fun, I will be tallying up ALL the points in the end and would like to post the final results for 2007 - the rankings as well as the total points earned for each song, haha. Obviously, the more lists the better. I've also been thinking, and especially since many have CLOSE faves, that maybe a top 3 or 5 should be given special treatment which would result in THOSE particular tracks receiving equal points. In this case, the rest of the tracks would fall down accordingly that way even last place will earn more than just a single point. I'm still debating how do go about the point system. **SECOND UPDATE: Yep, I've decided...the FIRST 3 songs will receive EQUAL points.
