1.Birds in Row - You, Me and The Violence
Thought of another non-metal album in my albums of 2012 list.
Joanne Shaw Taylor Almost Always Never - 2012 was a bit of a big year for JST as she got a little world wide recognition as being the guitarist for Annie Lennox at the Queens Jubilee celebration that was broadcast around the world. For those unfamiliar with Joanne Shaw Taylor, she is a phenomenal female singer/guitarist that has won the British blues Award for Best Female Vocalist in 2010 and the British Blues Awards for Best Female Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year in 2011 for her song "Same as it Never Was" from her Diamonds in the Dirt album.
While she's known mostly as a blues musician, she has really expanded her writing on her new disc Always Almost Never, at times bringing in a bit of Zeppelin, Floyd, and psychedelic/jam stylings to her already existing SRV, Albert Collins blues background.
Once again, if your open to music outside of metal - Joanne Shaw Taylor should be someone you look into.
As a metal related note, the bassist on this album is none other than founding member/guitarist of early progressive metal legends Watchtower - Billy White.
There is an interview with her in this months Premier Guitar: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazi...Voodoo_Grooves_and_Guitarmageddon_Tones.aspx?
Thanks to this thread I have found several great new albums.
I need to listen to more new music basically
The Contortionist - Intrinsic
BTBAM - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
7 Horns 7 Eyes - Absolution
Jeff Loomis - Plains of Oblivion
Chimp Spanner - All Roads Lead Here
Intervals - In Time
Deftones - Koi No Yokan
Katatonia - Dead End Kings
The Haarp Machine - Disclosure
The Algorithm - Polymorphic Code
The Faceless - Autotheism
The two that stand out for me are:
Rush - Clockwork Angels (their masterpiece)
Overkill - Electric Age
Another good one from this year - probably my favorite thrash album of the year.
Yeah, I might even like it more than Ironbound. That was a tough album to follow.
I'm not sure I would go that far - Ironbound was something really special for me. I'm not sure I'd put Electric Age ahead of it in my list of favorite Overkill albums, but for 2012 Electric Age is certainly my favorite thrash album.
Don't forget: Symphony X - Iconoclast
*Pig Destroyer - Book Burner
*Cryptopsy - S/T
*Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind
*Meshuggah - Koloss
*Gaza - No Absolutes in Human Suffering
The Acacia Strain - Death is the Only Mortal
haha...my fault! ...still living in 2011
Yeah, the production got worse and they turned into a faux-2005 era Killswitch ripoff. It's really, really bad.
also, Black Sheep Wall - No Matter Where It Ends is fucking crushing.
Other albums I dug not mentioned
Allegaeon - Formshifter
Whitechapel - S/T
Mors Principium Est
Spawn of Possession
Deathspell Omega- Drought (EP)
The Contortionist- Intrinsic
Death Grips- No Love Deep Web
Reading some of these personal top albums of 2012 hurts in a way that can only be described as being akin to having your testicles slowly compressed in a KY jelly covered vice grip. Fuck me.
Skyharbor - Blinding White Noise
That's about it. It's been a pretty bad year as far as my own tastes go, with some average material from Meshuggah, Periphery and Katatonia. Hell, I'm still haunted by the last Opeth release. Here's hoping 2013 has something special waiting for us!
Cannibal Corpse - Torture. No love for this?
New Pig Destroyer was insane too
Aeon - Aeons Black
Beneath - Enslaved By Fear
Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Alphthraum - Chronophage
Ophidian I - Solvet Saeclum
Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme
Enslaved - RIITIIR
Murder Construct - Results
Terrorizer - Horde Of Zombies
Weird Fate - The Collapse Of All That Has Been
Pathology - The Time Of Great Purification
Aborted - Global Flatline
Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage
Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Humanity
Arkaik - Metamorphignition
Ophidian I - Solvet Saeclum
Gorod - A Perfect Absolution
Gory Blister - Earth-Sick
Hideous Divinity - Obeisance Rising
Nile - At The Gate Of Sethu
Putrid Pile - Blood Fetish
Sophicide - Perdition Of The Sublime
Spawn Of Possession - Incurso
The Faceless - Authotheism
Anathema - Weather Systems
Katatonia -Dead End Kings
Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin
Beheaded - Never To Dawn
Fear Factory - The Industrialist
Ihsahn - Eremita
Psycroptic - The Inherited Repression
Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth
Wintersun - Time
Kreator - Phantom Antichrist
Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol
Abigail Williams - Becoming
New Cannibal Corpse and Meshuggah kinda sucked honestly.
Aborted's Global Flatline is brilliant. I'm always late on releases, too lazy to track down and buy new stuff haha
My top 5
Every Time I Die - Ex Lives
God Forbid - Equalibrium
Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage
Demon Hunter - True Defiance
Toxic Grind Machine - Embryonic Emission
