I have a friend that posts on Myspace weird pictures from Google street view maps. I had forgotten about this one until I opened Google Earth and the address was in the search bar and I instantly remembered what it was.

Now it seems that google censored the exact location now but you can still catch it in the nearby photos.

Search "19 Hardgate Aberdeen Scotland" on google maps and then go to street views, take a quick look of the surrounding area and prepare for a OMGWTFBBQ, its difficult to see as the original location of 16 Hardgate and 14 Hardgate were censored (which brought more lulz) but its still legendary.

All I have to ask, what the hell is up with you Scotsman? Do you guys really drink so much that you troll that hard?

if you paste in exactly as TWS typed you wont get the right street

    try this:

19 Hardgate, Aberdeen, Aberdeen City AB10 7, United Kingdom

I can see something, some dude with a mask on maybe? Can't get close enough to make it out...

since you guys can't seem to find it, a quick google search can land you this image

when I throw that address in Google earth, it takes me straight there, although it does add AB10 7.

What you gave us put you on the opposite side of Hardgate, and i cant seem to find any way to even go through the street down to where the horseman is(Since there is an unmapped roundabout in the way.).. anyways, horseboy is a classic!

as you can even see in the picture I posted it is labeled as 16 Hardgate. The directions that I copy and pasted were directly from the ones that I got from my friend and pasting that into Google chrome got me to the same location. I have heard of situations where the internet browser version of Google maps can be messed up and not display some things correctly. Seems to be LESS of an issue on Google Earth, but still happens. The roundabout is posted as 224 Hardgate and it also says that the area is AB10 6, not AB10 7. Again with Google you never know, their programming is about as solid as an old man's stool.

Then why he hell would Google censor it out as soon as it caught media attention?

thats how it used to be with satellite imagining, there would be no cars in the street, only parked cars, but in the higher resolution photos driving cars are very normal. In the older street view pictures you wouldn't see any people. I have been noticing though in the higher resolution photos of street view that you begin seeing a lot of people walking down the streets, though they go in and blur everyone's faces out after they had complaints of people saying their friends, family, bosses and coworkers caught them going into porn shops, hooking up with prostitutes and doing drug deals and the like when using the street view when it first came out.

Street View is about to go live in a few weeks here in Germany too and it's created a public, medial and political uproar. Apparently, a small majority is opposed to the service and the government is split over the issue and generally incapable of adequately dealing with it.

I've read that in other countries, i.e. the US or France, the implementation of Street View went over rather seamlessly. Is that true in your experience?

There's always a minority bitching about invasion of privacy and all that bollocks. But they'll quite comfortably walk around with an iphone, will buy a brand new car, and will pay for a TV license.

I think the controversy was to do with Google allegedly stealing info from peoples wifi, while they were taking the street view photos?

It's probably got something to do with the German "Kleingarten" mentality. As you've lived here, you might know what I'm talking about. ;)

While I can share or at least understand some issues people have with this service here, I agree, there's - as usual - lots of hypocrisy involved from all parties. Vastly amplified by the media.

That was another issue, or part of the issue if you will. Google stopped that after getting heavily pressured.

The current discussion involves Street View as a whole. There are initiatives about establishing laws to stop it's implementation (and that of comparable services) altogether, but it's just a mess as of now. Google kind of hit the government cold when they forced the issue while basically the whole parliament was on vacation.

But the issue takes up its own grotesque levels here. There are people who get together in online-communities to explicitly take and publicise photos of peoples' houses who force Google to blur out their houses.
