Do you think I should give the newest Shatter Messiah more time to grow on me? I thought the opener was great but then everything seemed like filler.

It has some great tracks (the first and last being awesome), and in between, I agree, it slouches somewhat., but even then, there's a lot of great things in there, both riff-wise and vocal-wise. I get what you're saying, but maybe after a few more listenings, you might like it more?

Well, only two songs are new. The rest are re-recordings, but they sound amazing. They don't really have a processed, plastic sound.

Well, many of my Christmas presents consist of albums from 2007, so I am nowhere near done with this year, so I can't quite make this list. In fact, I've probably only heard half of what I am set to hear. So, allow me to try this out:

Albums that I've heard from 2007 that will definitely be on the top ten list:

Patty Griffin - Children Running Through
Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omniscient

Albums that I have heard from 2007 that may make the list after further examination and comparison with other albums:

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times
    Ghost - In Stormy Nights
    Future Clouds & Radar - S/t
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
    Dälek - Abandoned Language
Dr. Dog - We All Belong
    MIA - Kala
    Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
    Sigh - Hangman's Hymn

Albums that probably won't be making my top ten list:

Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Winds - Prominence and Demise
    Pain of Salvation - Scarsick
Coheed and Cambria - No World for Tomorrow
Ulver - Shadows of the Sun
Alicia Keys - As I Am
    Agua de Annique - Air

Albums that I am waiting on hearing:

Tin Hat - The Sad Machinery of Spring
    Kneebody - Low Electrical Worker
    Battles - Mirrored
Butch Morris - NuBlu Orchestra Conducted by Butch Morris
    Caribou - Andorra
Boris and Michio Kurihara - Rainbow
    El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead
Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - Crystal Rainbow Pyramid Under the Stars
David Murray & Black Saint Quartet - Sacred Ground
Angels of Light - We Are Him

if you're a fan of heavy music at all, you owe it to yourself to listen to pig destroyer's phantom limb. Don't let their name fool you, they arent some retarded tech death metal band thats all blastbeats. Its riffs aplenty with tasteful drumming and genius production.
