As for thrash bands, to my ears the thrashiest would be Kreator.

Dark Angel, Forbidden and Sadus are quite good recommendations.

POSSESSED!!! :rocks: "Seven Churches" is brutal as fuck! And they even had a song called "Death Metal"... It's amazing, that their guitarist plays now in Primus (!)...
Also old Kreator is cool. Also Testament is one of my faves, but they are more melodic than brutal. And of course Slayer, although "Show No Mercy" sounds more like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest...
But if you want REAL deathrash, check our band
Mental Terror and these wicked songs!!

How about Death? I totally agree with earlier threads on testament- Forbidden and Meshuggah- and I think a band like the haunted, seems to have really copied testament- but added death vocals. Early Testament is my fav though

Converge (just listen to concubine, heavier than DEP), or perhaps nasum? Of course if you want to include the genre of noise then the answer is pretty much every noise band. "Merzbow - pulse demon".. need I say any more?

I REALLY find it hard to consider Merzbow a thrash or heavy band.. hell I have a hard them considering it a band.

Hah.. to each his own though.
