Been listening to a lot of Propagandhi this week. If you aren't familiar with them, and you don't mind Punk music, I highly recommend them. What sets them apart from other punk bands is you can hear a lot of Progressive Metal/Thrash influence in their post-2001 albums. These guys cite bands like Voivod, COC, and Rush as influences. I like to say they are the Tool of punk bands.
Taking a break from studies, so I decided to get back to gaming a bit. Fell in love with Dark Souls. It has a fantastic soundtrack. Gloomy and sorrowful.
Ukrainian black metal band White Ward is a recent discovery of mine, with a prominent use of instrument that's quite rarely heard in the genre.
Schammasch has a nice ambient electronic/noise influence. Meanwhile, I just found Wormwood. Too many influences to name them all -- eclectic, original metal:
This is some very promising Finnish gothic doom. Need to check out the whole album, it's called Storms Arise.
