I'm interested to hear how Tool would cover songs with death vocals... Maynard can scream but not growl. Would they just adjust the song so he could sing them usual or what?

Shame on you putting Vader's talent to waste.

Actually when he posted…
it sounded like that the song was originally done by Opeth and Celtic Frost have already mad a cover of the song.

Anyway. By The Pain I See In Others –Immortal

The Grand Conjuration - Enslaved

Benighted - Nick Drake

Weakness - Led Zeppelin (OK, so Bonham wouldn't fit in, but the song has a
'No Quarter' kind of feel, so imagine it in that vein)

Isolation Years - Linda Perhacs (or maybe Trees or Pentangle. A female folk vocal would fit nicely)

Closure - Burzum (it would be interesting to hear the song with that Varg ambience)

A Fair Judgement - Black Sabbath (you might think Ozzy's voice would ruin the mood, but just listen to the Sabbath song 'Solitude')

Face of Melinda - Uriah Heep (Think 'Come Away Melinda' part 2. Deep Purple would also give that song a fair go)

For Absent Friends - Camel (the more obvious choice would be 'Ending Credits', but I think Latimer's lead would suit this song well)

And for something totally off the wall:
Ghost of Perdition - Focus

the idea of Geddy Lee growling just made me choke on my bowl of weetabix.

Holy shit, I'd like to hear it, whether it sounds hilarious or convincing I don't care - I want to hear it.

by the way, to the guy who thinks SOAD could cover Bleak:

really big mistake. i do like SOAD in small doses but I seriously can't see them doing any Opeth and not fucking it up ridiculously. To go offtopic - SOAD should have done an album of Armenian folk music because the hidden track Arto at the end of Aerials on Toxicity is the best thing they ever did.

Oh yeah my contribution:

Swallow The Sun - Dirge For November

I'd quite like to hear The Gathering do a semi-ambient, Souvenirs-esque cover of an Opeth song. Maybe 'The Drapery Falls'.
