I don't know how I stumbled onto their page back in 2004, but at the time it had (I think, memory hazy) a sample of Prelude, a sample of Theocracy, and the full track for Mountain. I downloaded all three onto a CD for a road trip. By the time I got back from the road trip, I had ordered the self-titled album.

I know I also heard the St. Anger Tribute around the same time, but I think that was afterwards.

The first time I heard about Theocracy was reading an interview Matt did with Heaven's Metal. I emailed him and asked him if I could work on his next album cover (MOS). I then went online to find out more, so at that time it was a preview he had of I think three songs from the first album and a video of them rehearsing. Then I heard the Christmas Medley. Funny side note, is that he sent me an mp3 of "Hide in the Fairytale" that he was working on at the time. So I've been listening to that song before MOS came out.

    Same here...
It was a quite long waiting period from the time I first heard and read about Theocracy until the debut was finally finished. I was SO looking forward to that album and was checking for news frequently - and it was definately worth the wait!

My family has been, as a whole (minus my mom), huge Dream Theater fans for the past several years. One day my oldest brother posted Mountain on Facebook with a message to the effect of, "Yes, I finally found an epic Christian progressive metal band!" Since then he and I (and my middle brother a little) have become huge Theocracy fans. At the time we had no freaking clue that Mountain and the rest of the songs on that album were all done by one man alone.

    You and me both, man.

Laying the Demon to Rest for me. Found it on last.fm because it was listed as being similar to another song (I can't recall which one). I thought Theocracy was a cool name for a band, so I looked around on their artist profile. I'd never heard any Christian metal before, but after seeing from the comments that even atheists liked them, I figured I'd give the song a go. Loved it so much that I immediately went to Amazon and bought MOS.

Tower of Ashes for me...I streamed MoS off of the Zune Marketplace and listened to it straight through...then On Eagle's Wings came on....then Laying the Demon to Rest...and then Bethlehem....I was crying tears of joy for finding a modern band with such an epic metal sound! I came home and told my wife and oldest son "You've gotta listen to this!!!". I hadn't even heard the title track yet...when I finally listened to it, along with lyrics found online, I was quietly sobbing at the end...pretty awkward, considering the fact that I was at work at the time. Thankfully, I pulled it together and got back to my work.

Don't dis the name, theres a reason behind it. And I would not DREAM of putting a chopped liver remark.

EDIT: Yes I do know that it is backwards, mori was to short to put by its self, that why its mori_memento (couldn't think of anything better to put behind it.)

The first Theocracy songs I heard were "Absolution Day" & "I Am" on Youtube. I was absolutely blown away by the sheer talent & song writing (incredible lyrics) of the band, and the fact that they are Christian was unbelievable. 99% of "Christian" bands, in my opinion, suck. Theocracy can easily play along side any secular metal band on the planet! Move over Iron Maiden & Metallica, you've just been owned by Theocracy!!

If I remember correctly it was a demo for Serpent's Kiss from the old Yamaha AW441 forums (the multi-tracker Matt recorded the first album on).
