Ok. first aussie metal band i ever heard was Mortal Sin. I have seen em live 3 times

I first heard about Lord at the Saxon gig. After the gig i found out about Dungeon

Forgery. What can i say; Great mates, greats blokes, great musician.

    Reign of terror.

    Darker Half

Armoured Angel. If they reunited every metalhead in NSW/ACT would pack the place out

Trench Hell. I hear allot of good things about them. There playing at headbnagers open air 2010

ANATOMY. ANATOMY. Great Australian underground black/death metal band. I own a reissie on viynl of twisted depths of horror. Such awesome stuff. Shame there not around anymore. But i do know Marty runs bleed records

    Hobbs Angel of Death

Nazxul. Im seeing those guys at Maryland death fest next year.

Black Majesty are really good. Their Bass player used to plkay in a classic thrash metal band tamaris (i think its what they were called)

Escape with "jonh the beast" shame they didnt take off

Some more Aussie bands I've gotten into since I last posted in this thread:

    Cosmic Psychos
    Rust - http://www.myspace.com/rustpunk
    Noir Corps
    Shellfin

Also got CDs from In Malice's Wake and Killrazer, and going to see Melbourne band Vicious Circle when they play here next month.

Stephen, that is quite special, haha. Did they record much else?

I spotted you on various NZ music forums by the way. I post on them as Dead Kid.

Not sure, when I say favourite Sydney band I loved going to (sneaking in underage) to their shows and there was just a great vibe around this band, they had a great rapport with the audience and would pull a good crowd. I can't say if they released anything, I recall hearing their guitarist Sam would often go to the USA and things were looking very promising for him.

It was the good ol' days when many bands were considered Heavy Metal, when the audience would headbang and play air guitar. I recall a great gig they played at the Paddington Town Hall with Slaughter Lord and Axatak. I remember a friend had bought Anthrax's Fistful of Metal, I first heard it that night, Thrash was starting to take off and to me it all sounded like some form of Punk. Before long crowds started moshing and Metal audiences started to divide.

    Ah, so that's you.

from recent years I've gotten into Aussie bands like Quiet Child (really well done atmospheric metal, they've done a few decent supports as well) and some of the local ACT bands that have sprung up of late. Like Johnny Roadkill (good old rock n roll) and Futility (drone doom).

Trying to remember a Sydney band that features ex members of Mortal Sin and Rose Tattoo who put on a fucking epic set a few months ago.

Stu's band Empires of Eden also impressed with their two albums as well.

I haven't seen Fireballs since the 1990s. I'd like to check them out again. Entertaining band.

Matt Black hasn't been in the band for a while now. They took a bit of a break & came back as the 'Sinshifters' with a new guitarist Dylan the Villain in about 2003. Then a couple of years later, reverted back to the Fireballs & adding a 2nd guitarist.

I saw 'em for the first time in about '92 with T.I.S.M. at the P.O.W. I'm planning on popping along to the Melbourne gig, as you say, always put on an entertaining show :headbang:

I'm pretty sure I saw them with TISM at EV's in Croydon in 1994! Those were the days. Which other bands did you go see back then?

To be honest, didn't see too many local bands until towards the end of the 90's. Bands I remember seeing were -: The Angels, Blood Duster, Damaged, Earth, Frankenbok (playing at the Ferntree Gully on the 7th Sep) Wolves, Psycroptic, Alarum, Dreadnaught, Vanishing Point & Pegazus.

Reminds me of an Aus. radio band called Matt Finish. I believe their singer was also named Matt. The band and/or singer were regularly playing Springfields so usually later during the night the DJ would often put on their single 'Short Note'. At one stage their CD collection was very limited, same old songs.. :(

Yep, saw that, we had a follow up mention this week too, us and Ne Obliviscaris will just never live up to Hobb's Angel of Death.

    :)

Finally got to see them on the weekend, twice even. I'd probably rank them among the top 3 bands I've seen. Fun as fuck:

Also, gotta recommend Thorax, a Sydney band with an NZer on vocals:
