My knowledge of these things is so 2001, so which are some of the bigger Australian bands at the moment?

Airbourne are the biggest new deal to come out of Australia in my view. They just released a single too, and may be gearing up for their 5th studio album. Hellacious live act, Joel O'Keeffe is essentially predestined to go down in history as one of rock's finest wildmen.

King Parrot are quite popular in some circles.
Ne Obiliviscaris seem to have a following but I'm not a fan
Dead Kelly have a regular band of followers and release everything for free
Frenzal Rhomb recently came out of hiatus/sleep/retirement
Desecrator released their first full length album this year

Tarot are slowly reaching international recognition.

StarGazer might be the best thing to come from Australia in decades though, to my mind.
By that I mean, from their 2005 debut onwards. I doubt many people caught on to them via their demos and EPs etc.

I remember seeing them in pretty small gigs before they got big. They obviously loved AC/DC, but were really good at what they did. It's good to see them do well.

If I was still attached to "The Scene" I would have seen KP and NO by now. I'll still have to give them a listen. I'll check out the other bands as well. Frenzal Rhomb I'm certainly familiar with.

Big call re StarGazer! I'll endeavour to track down their stuff. Tarot also.

I went to see The Levitation Hex. I'm surprised I haven't heard more discussion about them in the last few years, given their connection to Alchemist in particular.

Certainly is. Meat and potatoes hard rockers, no bullshit, no pretense, just rock and roll. And that's one thing they obviously understand the true spirit of. I've seen them twice here now as an American, and you guys should be honored to have such diehard genuine rockers carrying your flag worldwide.

There is no doubt AccaDacca are good at what they do but saying us Aussies should be honoured to have them exist is no different to saying American's should be honoured because Kiss recognise themselves as American. Sure they are good, sure they are worthy of their place in music history but I don't think we should be honoured just because they moved here as kids, started a band, then moved away.

The AccaDacca show hasn't changed for years, they might change players occasionally, they might change songs, they might even change lights but the shows barely change. They still focus way too much on Angus and his solos, which might well keep some people interested but there is more to them than that. Angus was once quoted in an Aussie metal mag saying Led Zepp bored him because of how much they relied on JP's guitar work and solos, his own band had been doing the same since that 80's interview.

They deserve credit, they deserve what they have and they they can probably even keep calling themselves Aussies despite having very few connections left here, but there is better bands to play Aussie soil than AC/DC, they are just one of the most successful.

Calm the fuck down, have some dip, it was a compliment, there was no essay worthy Freudian subtext. And just like any compliment he's free to reject or accept it as he sees fit. Kindly untighten thay sphincter of yours before GE starts a diamond mine up there.

You wrote a 3 paragraph response to a 2 sentence compliment like it was a serious analysis.

I wasn't even discussing being honored about AC/DC anyways, I was talking about Airbourne carrying on the rock and roll spirit for Australia.
