I'm trying to decide between My Dying Bride's "The Angel and the Dark River" or Enslaved's "Below the Lights"

    Whatchu think?

It will be my first album by either band.

Enslaved, easily. There are better doom bands than MDB. No one sounds like Enslaved.

Well, you gotta have both, so it doesn't really matter.

Below the Lights is fucking amazing, in my opinion.

I still haven't heard all of Angel...anyway, I'd get Below the Lights if I could only get one...but if you have the money, then get both, and get em now son.

Those are two completely different bands, and albums. If you're looking for some more depressing doom go with mdb. But if you want something very original and whacky checkout Below the Lights. I tall depends on what you're looking for.

The Angel and the Dark River makes my top 5 list, so I'd have to say that. :)

I fancy Enslaved myself. How heavy are they (in terms of guitar sound). Are they death metal heavy? Or more like CoF keyboards and screeching nonsense?

I think I may go with My Dying Bride, just because I've been meaning to get one of their albums for a while.
But I've heard how good Below the Lights is, so I'll definitely get it soon.

First MDB album? Buy Turn Loose The Swans, it's their best.

Below The Lights is amazing (thus you should buy it), but I have to admit it is one of those albums that are certainly great but that I don't play too often (except for the first track, I could listen to that one again and again).

On a side note: The cover artwork of The Angel And The Dark River is one of the crappiest I've ever seen, whereas the cover artwork of Below The Lights is one of the best I've ever seen.
