I don't see what the big deal is. My 4 top favorite bands are Opeth, Katatonia, Anathema, and Tool, yet I listen to nu-metal, rap, pop, rock, jazz, whatever. It seems a bit narrowminded to not like music just because it is a specific genre. Even if it is a Backstreet Boys' song, if it's good, then it's good.
i agree utterly with Dismal... all that matters is if in the end music is or isn't good, we don't really need divisions or subclassifications... music is music, some music is bad other is good.
Oh yeah, I'm fine agreeing with that... The problem lays in the completely mystifying comparison to Kata... As a) LP sounds very little like Kata. I can just about see why they're coming from, but they're still stupid b) Kata are way superior
Katatonia is superior, but we must remember the ignorant folk we call nu-metallers. Most true metalheads started off listening to nu-metal. As shameful as it is, I used to listen to to nu-metal myself. There are several of these people that have not had any contact with true metal. I have successfully converted almost 10 individuals. This proves that not all nu-metallers are fools.
I'm afraid most people who consider themselves 'true metalheads' won't agree with you on this. How old are you anyway? OMG!!! Indeed, these nu-metal people are fucking ignorant...
In all fairness, I am sick and tired of this hair-splitting. We should all just listen to the music we enjoy and shut up.
I don't see how you people can be so narrowminded. Who cares what genre it is? We should be thankful people even make music anymore. Just because it's nu-metal doesn't mean it is bad. You act like if you heard a song by Linkin Park that you liked that you wouldn't listen to it because they are not "true metal". Admit it, life would be pretty boring without music.
Yes it does! Just like if it's Katatonia, it's good! But seriously, I enjoyed nu metal before it was called nu metal (eg the first Deftones and Korn). There was something hungry about the sound.. and fresh. Now it's basically crap. Linkin Park, Papa Roach, today's Korn, Taproot etc sound, to these ears, plastic and fake. Sure in a sick way they're catchy, but it's so polished and so obviously marketed for the dollar that it's hard to look past these issues... Plus a lot of their fans give them a bad name, walking around in baggy clothes and embarrassing themselves. But yeah, who cares really, I just wanted to have a rant
I agree to some point, that we should all lay back and njoy music, without labelling it and stuff, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about it... That's why we came here in the first place..
oh and please dont think im being narrow-minded. i do listen to some nu-metal like slipknot and mudvayne.
