Guitar solos *sigh* They are an integral part of a metal tune most of the times and we've had our share of great musicians in that department. What are some of your favorite guitar solos? I'll start with a couple of mine... Criss Oliva - Ghost in the Ruins Criss was a fantastic player and could shred with the best of them but his sense of phrasing and melody it's what I liked about him best. This slow paced tune really lets him shine and I can hum this one by memory. The way he builds tension towards the end of it is amazing. Boy, is he sorely missed Andy LaRoque - Black Horsemen Andy is another fantastic player and again, he shines when it comes to melodic and "happy" stuff. The harmony on the outro section really lends itself to this style of playing and Andy does not dissapoint. These are just a couple of mine but I know everyone has tons of favorite solos. Let's share some!
Here's a couple that come to mind right off the top of my head: George Lynch - "In My Dreams" and "Just Got Lucky" Ace Frehley - "Mr. Speed" Billy Gibbons - "Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings" Warren DiMartini- "Nobody Rides For Free" and "Way Cool Junior" Schenker - "Rock Bottom" That's just some that some to mind...
Panic by Anthrax had got on hell of a good solo Electric Eye by Preist of course Walk by Pantera is damn good But I think Am I Evil by Diamond Head is my personal favorite.
Rob que estás fumando????? :zombie: Damn too many I guess to quote here, so let's see what can I squeeze from my brain: Black Sabbath - 'Heaven And Hell' (the top) Black Sabbath - 'N.I.B.' Black Sabbath - 'Gypsy' Deep Purple - 'Highway Star' Deep Purple - 'Son Of Alerik' Judas Priest - 'Tyrant (UITE version)' Judas Priest - 'Beyond The Realms Of Death' Thin Lizzy - 'Emerald' (fucking textbook on twin guitar solos) Thin Lizzy - 'Black Rose' Thin Lizzy - 'The Sun Goes Down' Iron Maiden - 'Prodigal Son' Iron Maiden - 'Revelations' Blue Oyster Cult - 'Veteran Of The Psychic Wars (ETL version)' Blue Oyster Cult - '(don't fear) The Reaper' Megadeth - 'Tornado Of Souls' Megadeth - 'Countdown To Extinction' Coroner - 'Nosferatu' Coroner - 'Pale Sister' Rainbow - 'A Light In The Dark' Rainbow - 'Kill The King' Joe Satriani - 'The Forgottten (part 2)' Yngwie Malmsteen - 'Crying' Steve Vai - 'For The Love Of God' Tony MacAlpine - 'Key To The City' Metallica - 'Orion' Dream Theater - 'Peruvian Skies' Motorhead - 'Lost In The Ozone' Helloween - 'If I Knew' Helloween - "Halloween' Helloween - 'Still We Go' Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen Alice Cooper - 'Hard Hearted Alice' Rata Blanca - 'Solo Por Amarte' Rata Blanca - 'Guitarra Española' Barón Rojo - 'Hijos De Caín' Barón Rojo - 'Los Rockeros Van Al Infierno' al diablo, ya se me secó el seso P.S. Not metal but an all-time favorite of mine: Pink Floyd - 'Dogs' (Gilmour just fucking slays)
Off the top of my head. Most of these bands are loaded with brilliant solos. Also, this list may surprise the lot of you as there are few metal musicians found within: Bon Jovi - Bed of Roses (My all time favorite) Skid Row - 18 and Life / Remember You (these solos just sing) Judas Priest - Delivering the Goods (Glenn can't even play this anymore!) Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger (and really any of their solos) Johnny Lang - Lie to Me (Incredible amount of "feel" found within). Megadeth - Hangar 18 Fates Warning - Life in Still Water White Lion - When the Children Cry (The perfect example of complexity within simplicity - Vito FTW) Siam - Interaction Sword - Outta Control Kiss - Detroit Rock City (Love playing this solo) Metallica - Master Yngwie - Rising Force Dream Evil - The 7th Day Steel Dragon - We All Die Young Betrayer - Rusted Icons (Intro) Eagles - Hotel California (Acoustic version) Kim Mitchell - Pure As Gold (Again, complexity within simplicity - Kim fucking rules). Richie Sambora - Stranger in this Town Los Lonely Boys - Crazy Dream Guess Who - Glamor Boy (Live) Al Di Meola - Racing With the Devil... Robin Trower - Day of the Eagle Ted Nugent - Fred Bear Final Stage - A Passage of Dawn (I didn't play it and an example of perfectly restrained virtuosity) SRV - Pride and Joy Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing (basically everything he ever did) Ozzy - Revelation Mother Earth. (I don't really care for the song, but it's Randy's finest work on the axe). Jeff Healey - See the Light (He played "pretty good for a blind kid") Sabbath - Heaven and Hell Great White - House of Broken Love And last but certainly NOT least: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
I've always kind of kept a mental list of these -should have written them down I guess - but I'll probably have to add/edit as I remember more. These are the ones that are truly special to me: Ozzy/Jake - Bark at the Moon, Rock 'n' Roll Rebel Dokken - Kiss of Death Lynch Mob - Dream Until Tomorrow Symphony X - The Accolade, The Odyssey (all 7 or 8 of them, haha) Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me MacAlpine - Tears of Sahara Cinderella - Nobody's Fool (I hope this looks as shocking to others as PM's Bon Jovi did to me ) Loudness - In The Mirror, Road Racer, SDI, Soldier of Fortune, The Lines are Down VH - Push Comes to Shove, I'm the One, Atomic Punk, Girl Gone Bad Vai - For The Love of God (Wyv, good call on Prodigal Son as well) Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight Triumph - Rock and Roll Machine (from the Stages live album) King Diamond - Tea Aldo Nova - Fantasy Rainbow - Stone Cold Pat Benatar - Promises in the Dark Yngwie - Crying, Queen In Love, Blackstar, Soldier Without Faith, On the Run Again, I'll See the Light Tonight, Far Beyond the Sun
I guess most MacAlpine fans love "Maximum Security" songs better. It's difficult to pick a best solo from a guitar artist. And thanks for reminding me of Triumph, although for me is 'Lay It On The Line', that solo slays me.
Not necessarily, but Lynch clinches it for me on that song. Actually overall I probably like Edge of Insanity a little better. I love The Taker, Agrionia and the title track A LOT. Another Triumph solo I love is Time Goes By....
Oh was basically an observation derived from discussion with people that share my fandom for MacAlpine. And yes the debut is heavily underrated as is "Violent Machine" which IMO has some of his best crafted songs. His last solo album "Chromaticity" is very good too and I wish he makes another one on that vein, but now it seems that between The Devil's Slingshot (not bad) and Planet X (progressive not shredding) he has his hands full.
gonna try to do this without opening itunes... Denial Of Fate by Lost Horizon Welcome Back by Lost Horizon Nova Era by Angra Mirror Mirror by Blind Guardian Curse Of Feanor by Blind Guardian Book Of Thel by Bruce Dickinson Kissing The Shadows by Children Of Bodom Prophecy by Dream Evil Brave New World by Iron Maiden Dance Of Death by Iron Maiden Judas Be My Guide by Iron Maiden Powerslave by Iron Maiden Alexander The Great by Iron Maiden She-Wolf by Megadeth Shadowland by Nocturnal Rites Eyes Of The Dead by Nocturnal Rites Awakening by Nocturnal Rites Nuclear Fire by Primal Fear Evil Spell by Primal Fear Don't Say A Word by Sonata Arctica Weballergy by Sonata Arctica Sword Of Retribution by Tad Morose Take On The World by Tad Morose Winter Madness by Wintersun im sure i forgot some
I was hoping somebody come with that one even if the outro solo is the one that slays. One of my all-time fave Megadeth tunes.
The first that come to my mind: Winterhawk - Free To Live Warlord - Lost And Lonely Days Rainbow - Stargazer Deaf Dealer - Back to Gods Country Loudness - Soldier of Fortune
Iron Maiden - Aces high Iron Maiden - The Duellists Metallica - Dyers eve Metallica - cover of The Prince Queensryche - Eyes of a stranger Judas Priest - Electric eye Guns n roses - Sweet child o mine Guns n roses - Estranged Black sabbath - War pigs Anthrax - I am the law Van Halen - Panama
I'm not longer a fan of GNR, but those two are well damn solos along with Don't Cry. Slash really did a good work back then. Good calls, and welcome to the forum.
Don't recall about the solo but the song is one of the best metal tunes ever written If Heaven Is Hell You'll never get me down
haha yes. and probably a part of a reason i like it so much is its one of the few i can play on guitar.
