I don't feel like listing bands, but Folk/Viking is one of my favorite sub-genres.

    word. Primordial rules.

these ones are also quite fine:

    Bathory
    Enslaved
    Negura Bunget
    Skyforger
    Helheim
    Sólstafir
    Agalloch
    Bergthron

btw. can't understand the hype about Fintroll. they're boring as hell. the same goes for Ensiferum which have just one interesting song, which is 'Eternal Wait'

I'm just starting to get into this folk stuff, but I'm glad a few people mentioned Pagan Reign, because they kick ass.

Suidakra, Primordial, Eluveitie, Nachtfalke, Folkearth, Thyrfing and Bathory are other bands that have interested me.

    And of course...

    ^^:headbang:

I'm inclined to say Turisas, but Ensiferum get it, and only just.

Sorry for the epic bump folks, but I miss having a thread about this genre. I'm inclined to respond:

    Ancient Rites
    Turisas
    Moonsorrow
    Bathory
    Falchion
    Folkodia
    Negura Bunget
    Kampfar
    Thyrfing
    Windir
    Spectral
    Myrkvar
    Kromlek
    Fjoergyn
    Eluveitie
    Equilibrium

Only a few I can think of at the moment.

These days my favorites would be:

    Temnozor
    Skyforger (early stuff ONLY)
    Pagan Reign
    Obtest
    Menhir
    Odroerir
    Bathory
    Graveland (Thousand Swords only)

The following I enjoy from time to time but they're not really favorites:

Manegarm (Vargstenen is the only album by them that I like)
    Bergthron
    Windir
    Kampfar

& maybe Equilibrium... I still need to check out their new album as it's supposed to be very good. I wore out on their first one, but it's still cool.

I'll be checking them out soon.

They sing about vikings, but they're melodic death metal. If you listen to every other band mentioned, you'll hear vast differences in their sound. Amon Amarth employs no folk elements and doesn't really match of style of most Viking metal bands.

Nice list. I've still yet to check out Skyforger, but I plan on doing so soon. Which album would you recommend?

I'd say that Borknagar count, especially the s/t and The Olden Domain.
