i disagree. 'Silent Enigma', 'Eternity' or 'Alternative 4' have some fine song structures. 'Restless Oblivion', 'A Dying Wish', 'Eternity, pt.I', 'Suicide Veil', 'Re-Connect' or 'Regret' are best examples.
concernig Anathema being less emotional before AFDTE. what about songs like 'The Silent Enigma', 'Angelica', 'Shroud Of False', 'Inner Silence', 'Regret', 'Our Last Goodbye', 'Parisienne Moonlight' and many more? somehow AFDTE reminds me too much of Radiohead...

OMG.... How could someone say TSE and Eternity are not really emotional :guh:
What I feel in Vinny's voice in songs such as Sunset of Age, Shroud of Frost, Angelica, The Beloved, and especially Raaaaadiance, no one else can do that....

I think The Silent Enigma is a very emotional record. The pain in Restless Oblivion, Shroud of Frost etc. is unmistakably real

They wrote structured songs until A Fine Day..., that's when the songs started to be more like 'soundscapes' and simply became less structured with more of a spontaneous/improvised feel. And that's also what I didn't really like about that style.. I like the more clear songstructures of the older albums.

I agree with that, now, many songs share the same "evolution". Like, for example... A song starting of mellow, maybe with a basskick beat, working towards a climax.
I don't mind this, but it's getting predictable, it started with Release on AFDTE, and it was there in Balance and Closer and stuff, and it's even coming back in that new song they released, for the upcoming album.

No way there was no rhyme or reason the parts before. All the sudden it would change into a verse thats like wtf is this here? Trust me they had some shoty structures before. The new cds have more formula based structure mind you, but at least it makes sense, and seems to be working for them. I didn't say the last cds weren't emotional either but I said in my opinion the new ones are more emotional. Someone said they sound like radiohead now, and some say they sound pink floydish at times before, but to me anathema have a distinct sound, they sound like anathema.

Well, the songs definitely had clearer verse/chorus structures on Eternity/A4/Judgement than on AFDTE and AND, there's no doubt! That's not a matter of opinion or taste. Just listen to a song like "Release" from AFDTE, it just starts with this acoustic picking and it pretty much keeps going for the entire song and fades out in the end, can't really call that a structured song!

Just listen to any song from A4, Judgement and there's a much clearer disctinctive structure, there's just no denying that!
