    Nerve End - The Cycle

These folks have been cooking this album for nearly a decade and it's finally out. It's a jazz and djent influenced modern prog metal album with a lot of nice stuff going on. They've got a pretty unique sound and feel I think.

Aeternam - Heir of the Rising Sun

The new Aeternam is out slightly early and holy shit it's beastly. If you've ever liked Orphaned Land then definitely check them out. Epic Middle East-inspired progressive melodeath (I think that's the most applicable genre salad I can apply here).

    Day 2, 3, & 4 Tickets for free

For risk minimization reasons I'm not going to be at the fest this year and I'd hate to see someone who could go not make it on account of not having the scratch for the entry slip. You want mine? PM me here and we'll work out the transfer. EDIT: I also have an additional TWO sets of Day 3 and...

    Sound Struggle - The Bridge

The Berklee jazz metallers are back with probably their last album, and it's a monster.

Rivers of Nihil - The Work

I know a lot of folks around these parts found something to love in their previous album, Where Owls Know My Name, and this one is an absolutely worthy followup to that monster disc. I'm gonna get a loooot of spins out of this badboy.

    Spiritbox - Eternal Blue

I've been tracking these progressive djenty metalcore folks since late last year and now their debut album is out and it is obscenely good. Progressive metalcore is having a hell of a year (Erra, Architects, Born of Osiris) and Spiritbox is definitely joining the top echelons...

    Avandra - Skylighting

I remember these folks getting a fair amount of love around here, and they've got a new one coming out soon. The one single that's there sounds really good.

Buried Realm (for the death and melodeath fans)

One beastly dude doing all the instruments and singing. Reminds me a lot, stylistically, of Soilwork circa 2000. The first album is a lot more death metal, and this one's got a lot more melodeath in it...but if you're a fan of either genre you should definitely check this out.

    Protest the Hero - Palimpsest

Based on the singles I wasn't honestly expecting to be blown away, but this album is an absolute monster. It's a strong contender for Album of the Year for me. The whole album is on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mO58AmZgPuVDwd4T6t0TWzlPaCzyJynfk

Paralydium (Project) - Recording in studio

Short studio update from the band, but it's got some song snippets and they sound frickin good. I'm hyped as hell for this.

    Mobius - Kala

Found this one via the Laser's Edge newsletter...wow it's a stunner. Melodic djenty prog with Middle Eastern/Indian influence with a fantastically smooth vocalist. There's so much flavor and atmosphere here. I can't wait for my copy to arrive.

    Thank You Scientist - Terraformer

These mad lads have a new one coming out, and a single to match. It's all very on brand for them and I'm pretty excited about it.

    Avandra - Descender

These folks from San Juan made a bit of a splash with their debut And now they've got a new one coming out soon Shows a lot of the same promise.

Stolen from PM. This is the most Ark sounding band I've heard since Ark.

    Periphery 4 - Hail Stan

First single, Blood Eagle, is a fuckin doozy. This album should be awesome.

Prehistoric Animals - Consider it a Work of Art

Playing PP Europe this year. Sounds really good. Seemingly the album's only on iTunes and Spotify, atm.

2018 top however many (I'm too lazy to count)

Here we go, my top...however many this is. Alphabetical until the EPs, which I separated just because. Youtube links are for my favorite track(s) or the ones I feel give the best overall representation of each album. Andy Hauck - The Winding Way This weird djent-tinged Western Rock thing that...

Polyphia - New Levels New Devils

The new Polyphia is arguably more groove jazz than metal, but damn is it a stellar slab of music.
