    Orwarrior Tour

Anybody know if the Austin show is definitely confirmed? Red 7 doesn't have anything about it on their website (and hasn't answered my email). Seems a little too good to be true given the limited number of NA dates.

Any Insomnium fans - thoughts on new album

I discovered these guys a month or two ago, and have been listening to all four of their albums in pretty heavy rotation ever since. I'm pretty picky when it comes to death metal, but these guys are right up there with Dark Tranquillity as my favorites. One thing that bugs me a little with...

Apocalyptica finishing work on new album

I liked the instrumentals on Worlds Collide, but could do without the vocals-based songs. "I Don't Care" was OK, but I wouldn't want to listen to a whole album of songs like that.

    Tesla/Cartman & Shooting Star!

I dunno, to me the Last Chance riff sounds more like parts of Journey from Mariabronn...

ICED EARTH Announce New Single, Reveal Artwork

Can't wait to hear Matt sing The Clouding.

    Classical and Metal

Generally speaking you want to look at the Romantic era composers; guys like Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Mahler, Hebert, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, etc. Especially look for works in minor keys. A few of my personal favorites: Brahms - Symphony No 4 (all of his symphonies, really) Brahms - Piano...

Reznor and his thoughts on downloading...

BTW I think the problem with Reznor's expiriment is that the 'free' version was too high of quality. 192kbs MP3 is plenty good enough for the iPod generation, those crappy little earphones won't let you hear the difference between 192 and 320 in most cases. If the free version had been 48kbps...

Reznor and his thoughts on downloading...

The problem with the tax approach is administering it, and figuring out who gets a cut. It can't be just the RIAA, much as I'm sure they'd like that. You've also got non-RIAA labels, and what about other content that gets pirated: movies, software, ebooks? Those guys are going to want a cut as...

Trent Reznor and downloading music - Is it downloading working for NIN?

I'd love to be able to buy albums from the bands I listend to in FLAC format for $5 a piece.

Early roll call: Circus Maximus/Manticora in Atlanta

Cool, didn't realize it was going to be the last stop on the tour. (We were the last stop for Kamelot/Leave's Eyes too). Really looking forward to the show, and I love the location since it's a 10-minute drive for me (get's a bit smokey in there sometimes, though). (apologies to the...

Early roll call: Circus Maximus/Manticora in Atlanta

Please don't tell me the Houston show has been canceled. Is TX not a part of the South?

    New Brainstorm

I loved Soul Temptation but couldn't get into Liquid Monster. I'll be checking this one out first rather than buying it "blind".

RIAA: CD Ripping For Personal Use Now 'Unauthorized'

And how exactly would the RIAA know that they are sharing these files in a home network that isn't visible to the outside world? That's just silly.

It's official - MATT BARLOW REJOINS ICED EARTH!

Too bad this couldn't have happened before Something Wicked Part 1 was already released and Barlow had committed to working with Pyramaze. The timing now seems to be a bit messy, I can't image Ripper or the guys from Pyramaze are too happy about this coming out of nowhere (assuming Barlow will...

RIAA: CD Ripping For Personal Use Now 'Unauthorized'

I think the key phrase there is "and they are in a shared folder". Making copies in any format for strictly personal use is legal, no matter how much the RIAA would like it to be otherwise. But once you make those copies available to other people, you're violating copyright law.

MP3 Player (Need to buy one, need recommendations)

I have a Sandisk eSansa 280 that I'm pretty happy with for a flash-based 8GB player to keep some MP3's on. What I'm looking for now is a HD-based player (the bigger the capacity the better) that can play FLAC's. Any suggestions?

The unofficial "Framing Armageddon" appreciation thread...

My thoughts on this album are still somewhat mixed, but it's definitely gotten better with additional listens. As a big Barlow fan who thought that TGB was OK but not great (aside from the Gettysburg Trilogy which is awesome), I didn't have terribly high expectations for this album. I think...

    Dark Passion Play pricetag

Got it for $12.99 from Amazon, I always check there first for stuff because I have prime. After a few listens the album is pretty disappointing though, definitely glad I didn't spring for the collectors's edition.

    KRUCIBLE THIS SATURDAY IN HOUSTON!!!!!!!

Never heard of Wide Open Throttle, are they pretty popular locally? Maybe they're last because the last slot is going to be have a late start time, and a lot of people will have left by then? I remember when we saw Zero Hour there a while back they didn't go on until like 12:30 (or maybe later)...

    Iced Earth's Framing Armageddon

The DT-880's are considered to be "semi-open", not sure exactly what that means but if you're looking for complete isolation and the ability to crank it up without cubicle neighbors hearing your music you may be disappointed. I think the design the use works well though, what I really like about...
