    Jacob Hansen sound?

I'm not sure if it's a DM signature... As for editing drums, I normally let people play like 4-5 passes and pick out the best parts. I do some editing, yes, on almost every album. Especially if we are adding keyboards and effects afterwards, to avoid flamming arpeggios etc. In Maintains...

Pestilence - Resurrection Macabre guitar sound questions?

I nearly always track 4 rhythm guitars. It of course depends on what kind of music I'm working with. If I want a more "live" sound, I'd go for 2. And if I want a big sound, I sometimes go for 4 hi-gain + 2-4 crunch rhythm guitars that play different voicings on e.g. Telecaster or SG. But that's...

    Jacob Hansen sound?

Yes, it's been a while since I was here. Good to be back :) Anyway, Volbeat... Michael has this kinda weird setup which we used on all albums. I believe it's a Marshall JCM800 the 2010 series. It's from the beginning of the 90's. There's an EQ + Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop. They...

Pestilence - Resurrection Macabre guitar sound questions?

Yes, 8100 it is. They're not built very well... I've broken 2 now. But they're pretty cheap 2nd hand, and although they'd never work in a live situation, they're pretty great in the studio, combined with a heavier and fatter sounding amp.

    Jacob Hansen sound?

I choose whatever amp I think fits to the music we're working with. In Mercenary's example, the choice fell on Bogner + the JVM Marshall head. Both compliment each other very well. Two cabs were mic'd with 421's + GrooveTubes GT55 (I think it's called). The guitars are dubbed 4 times. Bass is...

Pestilence - Resurrection Macabre guitar sound questions?

Thanks for the nice words, guys! Pat uses his Steinberg, which has, I believe, EMG-89 in bridge position. We tracked 4 guitars - 2x Valvestate (the tight bottom sound) + 2x Recto... or was it 5150?! I can't remember, sorry. But Pat has this twangy sound to his playing style. The...

Nightrage "A New Disease is Born", which amps?

No Tubescreamer, tho. I use a Boss RGE-10 EQ as well.

Nightrage "A New Disease is Born", which amps?

Thanks for the nice words, guys! :) I believe we ended up using 5150 + Dual Rectifier. Quadrupled. As far as I remember it was this modded version of the 5150. Scaled down to deliver only 50watts... But hey, I've got a 6505, and seriously I can't tell much difference. The 6505 sounds rad...

How do I make a Crowd cheer sample? HEY

Find a few samples at for example freesound. Then copy it to another track, pitch it a bit down, maybe move it a little bit and/or even put on some extra stadium reverb, and you've got it.

    ANUBIS GATE....wow!!

You're all too kind - even discussing me is a compliment, haha! I hope you'll be checking out our coming album, which we're gonna record this summer/autumn. I believe this is set for early '09 release. Sorry to be out with that so early! :) I'm just very thrilled about our new songs, which -...

    GUITAR recordings -- HELP!

Combos are OK, but they tend to sound small - I don't know if it's just me... :) And maybe I am the only one here who DOESN*T favor an SM57, but rather goes with an MD421 and MD509. These mics are killerr. Brendan O' Briend also swears to the 421 for guitar. I think you will get enough bass...

    GUITAR recordings -- HELP!

Why a warm room?! Doesn't make much sense to me... ;) Anyway, Rectos are quite muddy. They have this big tone, but not a fimr chunk, if you know what I mean. I suggest you use the vintage channel instead of the modern. Use little gain - at 1 o'clock or less. Even if it sounds quite thin while...

    5 best drumproductions ever

A bit OT, but it's kinda funny that I just 2 days ago had a discussion with a band that's in my studio right now... They were divided in two parts where one of the parts believed that Richard Christy is just a brilliant drummer and that intro on that album ("Sound Of Perseverance") is close to...

    5 best drumproductions ever

    1. Motley Crue - Motley Crue (Bob Rock - and it rocks! Ambiance en masse as well as that stuff he did with overcompressing the hihat. Indeed powerful. Listen to "Hooligans Holiday") 2. King's X - Dogman (Brendan O'Brien - simply amazing. I heard he used a PA system on the drums in the studio)...
