Surprisingly, that song got me interested in the new album. Nice riffs, and while the chorus isn't exactly breathtaking it's got enough of a hook there to get me at least to check out the rest of the album when it comes out.
I hope at least one of the headliners is pure power. The Main Fest top 4 bands are all prog, so hopefully there's something in there that I can lose my shit over while I'm over there enjoying all the power metal opening acts.
Double bonus for me, since I missed Pyramaze last time they played due to finances! Of all the bands I missed that year, that's the one that stings the most.
I'm just now realizing that I'm apparently the only one who thought War of Ages was amazing and a huge step forward. Their early stuff was good power metal, but War of Ages was really a next level piece of work, and I'm very pumped to see them go further down that road musically. I've been...
New album from the atmospheric death metal band! If anybody remembers Atoma, this is the melodic death metal project their guitarist started after the band went on hold. Sounds like a mix between Atoma and Insomnium, and it's dripping with atmosphere all the way through. I highly recommend it to...
I'm absolutely loving this right now. The vocals aren't exceptional but they're more than good enough for me. I've only gotten in two playthroughs but so far it's excellent. I'm definitely ordering this next paycheck (buying PPUSA tickets on top of last month's hotel bill leaves me with jack...
I pretty much liked it right off the bat. Iconoclast didn't do well after a year or two to sit with me, so this was a really great sign for me, something about Iconoclast just seemed slightly off. Underworld's not AOTY, but it's definitely top ten unless some real dark horses come in the next...
It's about time Australia got some love. Vanishing Point and Lord are two of the absolute cream of the crop over there, for sure, but there's a long list of stuff I want to see out of that part of the world.
I don't think of this as Queensryche, I think of it as a new band. QR was a band in the 80s that released a bunch of classics and then disappeared. I had already long given them up for dead so it's very easy for me to come into Condition Human with an open mind. It's a really solid album, lots...
Losing my shit right now. They've been a MASSIVE bucket list band for years. After Falconer and Grave Digger they're going to be #1 on my list by the time September rolls around again!
I've heard it too, and I'm pretty underwhelmed. I'm starting to think that the explosive first album was their peak, and the sophomore slump has become a bust. Her voice is good, but not good enough to carry generic riffs and low energy throughout.
Braindance was one of my favorite albums of last year. It took a minute to grow on me, but man, those songs are incredible, and the singer's voice is mesmerizing. I would love to see them live, but I can only afford one trip per year. The odds of them getting to Denver (or ProgPower) are pretty...
Sort of. They have the obligatory piano-drenched ballad and 10 minute epic closer, gang choruses, etc. It plays off of power metal tropes, but lovingly. In my opinion, their appeal is largely based off the fact that they're gigantic dorks and love wearing it on their sleeves. The fun they're...
Will the whole thing be announced before tickets for the main festival go onsale? I'm still very on the fence about this year, if the first two days are better I'll be getting tickets for Friday and Saturday too as long as I'm down there. I don't want to have the main fest sell out while I'm...
