I think that Cauldron Born album is a bit redundant. The riffs still rule hard, but the new singer has more of an over the top Euro style but also in places is near identical to the original vocalist. The production isn't radically different either, so I don't think there was any real need for...

Such an awesome record and such a heavy band at their peak live. There's some great live footage on youtube.

:err: But must admit I need to revisit Run to the Light and Trouble.

100% agree. The first two Trouble albums are untouchable. Also that Solemn Lament EP is excellent, best new thing I've heard in a while.

I listen to black metal just about as often as I post here these days, but I discovered this a month or so ago and absolutely love it. Excellent riffs, vocals, production and most importantly; songwriting. I've also been enjoying Cosmic Church, Malokarpatan, Cult of Fire's last double album and...

    Traditional Doom Metal

Rituals of the Oak have just released their third album, cleverly titled "Mach III". It's quite a departure to their previous albums, a couple of songs will definitely take you by surprise. The production is fantastic, very strong songwriting and of Sabine's vocals are better than ever. There's...

Chewing on flesh, gnawing on bones! Down Among The Dead Men a hundred times over. Crushingly relentless thrash.

    Best Metal Cover Album

Everytime I hear Reverend Bizarre's version of Deceiver I think "why didn't they record the whole thing?" Agreed with Vilden that their black metal covers are the best.

Too Late To Pray is a really underrated gem. I've got the LP too, but the CD version also has some great unreleased tracks.

I think it was re-released as last year by High Roller as Dreams of Eschaton, which is the "original" track list. So it shouldn't be too hard to get. The LP release by Rockadrome (I think) of Mark... would probably be worth a few quid today. I love the Jim Fitzpatrick artwork they used for the...

Which song? Spiral Castle is definitely my favourite of the post reunion albums. Top five overall; 1. Crystal Logic 2. The Deluge 3. Mark Of The Beast 4. Mystification 5. Open The Gates

I worship the first two Fate as pretty much unparalleled albums, but I could never get into any King Diamond post The Fatal Portrait. It all sounds so streamlined and Unholy Christ do I hate that falsetto.

All great bands, but I don't think Tarot really fit with them. Although I must say I really truly love The Devil's Blood.

EPs that you wish could have been fleshed out into full studio albums

Have you heard Satanic Rites? It came out earlier than Apocalyptic Raids and for all intents and purposes is a full length and heavier than hell.

    Metal 2017

Should be a great album, I've been looking forward to it for ages. Also, check out Vulture if you like Antichrist. Cool riffs and similar vocals although the songwriting isn't quite as good.

    Thrash!

https://highcommand.bandcamp.com/releases Usually when I hear the term Crossover I run a million miles, but this is very good, very heavy thrash. Would appeal to fans of Foreseen and also reminds me very much of Ulysses Siren for some reason. They also demonstrate how to do breakdowns right...

    Black Metal.

I was big into Enslaved for a time although my taste in heavy metal changed around the time Ruun came out, which as I recall had a few good tracks on it. My favourites were always Below The Lights and Isa.
