    Question for you Rage Fans...

The ones you picked up are basically all of the really orchestral ones. There's bits and pieces of other 90's stuff that has some orchestration, but most of it is quite a bit different. Unity, in particular, is pretty much a return to their late 80s sound (with better production)...sort of a...

    Queensryche & Dream Theater Co-Headline

FWIW, the last big QR tour didn't play O:M in its entirety. It played a -lot- of it, but not the whole thing.

    Queensryche & Dream Theater Co-Headline

I saw the Evening with Queensryche show year before last. It was just OK. I'd say about a third of the material was Mindcrime, with another half split between Rage and Empire, and then the last bits from all the rest. Q2K stuff got almost no play whatsoever, thank god. Tate's voice was...

Secret Sphere to release "Scent of Human Desire" May 19 via Nuclear Blast!

I'm sort of liking it, though I liked it better before it hit the weird time signature on the bridge. -A Time Never Come- is almost too dense in spots for my taste, so I'm enjoying a slightly simpler and crisper sound from them. It will be interesting to hear the full album.

    Jon Oliva at Progpower?

I dug P&M...Oliva's voice still sorta sucks (technically speaking), but they're using it well. Wake was a weak version of DWD. I still like it, but it's probably my least favorite Savatage album since Streets.

    Jon Oliva at Progpower?

Same here. I really didn't like -Streets- much (yeah, I know, blasphemy, but Jon's voice was going at that point) and then -Edge of Thorns- rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't pick up Savatage again until -Dead Winter Dead-, and ended up going back for the rest. Now I love all those albums...

Did you watch the Mercenary video?

Man, I love your taste, Jim. I have about 3/4 of that list already!

    Jon Oliva at Progpower?

Well, plus there's the fact that Damond Jiniya is, well, a better singer than Zak. Zak sings what Zak sings reasonably well, but I was blown away by the range of intonations and pitch that Jiniya managed during Savatage's live set in San Francisco...he nailed everything he sang on, old and new.

    Hotel Help!

Oh, and to answer Mephistopheles, I stayed in the Fairfield last year. It was $70 a night, and it was a bed and a shower. They technically do a continental breakfast, but it's basically a half cup of orange juice and a bad danish, iirc. In other words, don't expect much. The staff was fine...

    Hotel Help!

The Fairfield and Best Western Suites are both inside of a 5 minute walk to the venue. The BW also gets the bands, as a general rule, but it's a lot more expensive than most of the other choices.

Did you watch the Mercenary video?

Man, no need to fingerpoint. I like Balance of Power (well, Lance King, anyways), Dream Theater, Helloween, and Devin Townsend. It's one frickin' slot. Give some credit for those of us who're a bit eclectic. Among my last ten CDs have been The Haunted, Oratory, Finntroll, Strapping Young...

Holy shit, I'm digging Mercenary. I love the heavy stuff!

    Don't forget the MP3 section

Heh, I love current Savatage, too (well, I can kinda do without -Wake of Magellan-, but other than that). Still, CircleIICircle has groove that Savatage doesn't. It's gonna be a great show!

I guess I should say a few words....

You've put together a good varied lineup including some old standbys, some new top-shelf bands, and some great up-and-comers. I really couldn't be more thrilled with the lineup. It's not as high-profile as last year's, but I truly think it'll be a better show. Congratulations, Glenn...my...

Is it becoming all about the $$$$$ ??

I have no idea what it is people want for "premier" bands. For one thing, -last- year's lineup made people stand up and take notice. No problem there. I think this year's lineup mixes some good standbys (Rage, Nightwish) with the best of the up-and-coming (CircleIICircle, Pagan's Mind(!)...

    My little rant...

See, for me, I love all those bands. That's what got my ass out to Atlanta. Problem is, there's a certain same-ness across the lineup, particularly because BG didn't really do any of their -really- epic stuff. This year's lineup will have a -lot- more variety, and there's not a band on the...

Anyone else feel this same way about the show this year?

That's pretty damned subjective. I think Pagan's Mind is the best new band I've heard in a long time, and Rage has a very varied and unique sound to their catalog. I like Sonata Arctica, and Stratovarius' new one doesn't make my teeth hurt like the last couple before it, but I'm much happier...

Anyone else feel this same way about the show this year?

Yeah, I'm thrilled with the lineup, really. I've seen Iced Earth already (they seem to hit SF on a regular basis), and I've seen Nevermore like 3 or 4 times. I love 'em, but they aren't exactly hard to catch. I'm happy that Glenn booked bands that I have very little chance of catching out...

    New HELLOWEEN album artwork!

I dunno. I'm uncomfortably reminded of -Pink Bubbles Go Ape- by the title and the artwork...I mean, I kinda liked PBGA, but it was a major shitstorm in the Helloween fanbase.
