the "burden" video once again is a momumental dissappointment not only to myself but as i am sure to a number of Opeth fans which once again proves that albeit the video directing lacks much needed talent, the ultimate flaw was revealed when they failed to include the crescendo and deconstructive finale , thus capping this great ballad ...

You are very wrong with your statement. The video is not a monumental disappointment or anything. It is good, in fact awesome compared to other Opeth videos. They are on the good track, the band looks cool. Cry if you want to though..

The video simply doesn't tell the story as the song plays it out to be... and although I admit the empty theatre and featured solos are a plus, the video still fails in the video direction department and cutting the end of the song leaves it somewhat incomplete. I liked Porcelain Heart more when compared to this, at least the video direction followed along with the song... just disappointing all the same..

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And Id like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air

In west philadelfia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys said were up in no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air

(only the first three episodes of season one)

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissin and she gave me my ticket
I put my walkman on and said I might aswell kick it

First class, yo this is bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
Is this what the people of bel-air livin like,
Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

LOL! I don't think you made joke lyrics for Burden, Samurai, did you? Tell us the story.

I like the video very much personally. I think it's beautiful and suits the song. I also like the fact that it connects with the "Porcelain heart" video. In the band we all agreed on this being our best video this far.

Editing is a whole different matter. I hate chopping up songs but spending a vast amount of money on something that won't be played due to it being too long would be a disaster. A band like us will never have a 7+ minute video aired. Simple as that.

I found this song "easier" to chop up since it's more of a verse/chorus type song. We cut out the intro and the outro leads but everything in between is intact.

Unfortunately videos have come to being a strick vehicle of promoting the latest album other than a pure artistic statement. It's regrettable but with that said, I still love the video to bits!

Cheers
Mike

Ahh... why did they have to cut this beautiful song... both the intro (my favourite part) and the ending... Burden isn't a three minute pop song for god's sake.

As I said in another thread: Boring video. Lost interest after approximately 1 min or so. Nothing happens. Nothing new. Nothing good at all. Just boring repetitive stuff.

afaik, no one will be happy till there's a vid of Opeth LARPing through a snowy forest under a full moon, getting devoured by Horgh and Abbath's grim and frostbitten hordes.

Mike, I'm not sure how the video ties in to Porcelain Heart or where it does... I would like a better detail on this. As far as the video direction, I understand the money issue, but all set aside I feel that there is something more that could be added to this/is missing. I also concur about the cutting bits of the song as well, but indeed a wonderful song nonetheless. The shots of the band are very good, it's just the video story apart from the band shots that I felt were hazy... perhaps you could give us some clarity into this?

Who cares? Opeth is not about videos anyway.
