You can avoid the loss of attack by cutting a little after the transient, then stretching only the sustain/release of a note. Still not ideal, obviously, but you gotta do it sometimes.

The Steinberg ur824 would be a great choice if you're a Cubase user and the Presonus 192 if you're a S1 user due to how well the interfaces are integrated into the DAWs.

I like the idea, but why didn't you make the base threaded (and with a hinge) to mount directly on a stand? Plugging that guy into a 57 clip makes it really bulky.
