Getting old or just tired of bands?

Guys, I am a member since 2002. I used to listen to metal for hours each day. As you can tell from my user name, I am now 36 years old... Lately I've found that I have no desire anymore to listen to a lot of the bands that I once loved, like for example Primordial, Enslaved or Neurosis. Am I...

    Anyone else agree...

...that all of Devin's albums since Addicted are more or less crap? I consider albums like Biomech, Infinity, Terria and Acc. Evolution as absolute masterpieces. But since Addicted I'm feeling a constant decline in his music. I hate how his guitar playing got so uninspired and how he...

    Best Neurosis album

Wow, this is my thread from 2003! :) Is still think ToG is their best, but I agree that TSiB is the most intense and dark. Maybe too much of it. I remember seeing them play Locust Star live. Awesome.

    The official metal 2012 thread

I think it's CRAP. I don't like Anathema's direction at all. They have lost inspiration and now they're trying to replace good songwriting by a more orchestral approach, pointless string arrangements and uninteresting female vocals. Incredibly cheesy and pretentious. Terrible lyrics too (well...

    Opeth - Heritage : opinions

I think that since Ghost Reveries, the vocal melodies have been gaining more and more "mainstream appeal". Which to me is a sure sign that a band is going downhill. They're losing what once made them special.

    New Opeth album cover.

Take a song like Godheads Lament for example. Creativity and inventive songwriting all over the place. What they have been doing since WS (arguably GR): trying to be prog without having anything to say.

    New Opeth album cover.

The new song sucks! They sound so uninspired nowadays. It seems like they are trying hard to get rid of their metal roots but forgetting that that's the only style they're actually good in. They are trying to replace it with some kind of boring prog rock. Sure, older albums contained prog rock...

Dream Theater - Mike Portnoy + Mike Mangini = OMFG!

Petrucci is a great songwriter and guitarist IMO. The vocals, the keyboards and the lyrics though, they are terrible. That's why I'm hoping for another Petrucci solo album or Liquid Tension Experiment (without Rudess please).

Primordial - Redemption at the Puritan's Hand

Meh... I think they already peaked on Spirit The Earth Aflame and Storm Before Calm. Both records contain such epic and beautiful songs that I just don't find on the last three albums. TNND was good, but I noticed getting tired of songs like Empire Falls and Gallows Hymn. They just seemed more...

What happened to today's pop music?

I don't know about pop in general... But concerning MTV - it's practically dead, at least here in Germany. Most of the shows on there don't have anything to do with music (you know what crap shows I'm talking about). I remember when they used to have shows like MTV Unplugged. Nowadays I can't...

    Your first Devin album

Really, thinking about albums like OM, Infinity and Terria makes me realize how bad his latest albums really are. Listening to Addicted makes me :waah:

Warrel Dane is the worst vocalist I've ever heard

I agree completely. Which is funny because many people seem to think he's one the best vocalists ever. I'd possibly like Nevermore quite a bit with a different singer - but then, Loomis' solo album didn't do much for me either... Have you listened to it?

    Metal Elitism (read before locking)

Liking certain types of music / metal isn't really an achievement. It's a preference, nothing more. And, let's face it, you will grow out of extreme metal when you get older anyways. Trust me.

Most overhyped/worshipped band that you hate.

Nevermore. seriously, they are terrible. and the people on their UM forum are morons BTW.

Burzum - Belus (aka "Den Hvite Guden") (2010)

from his web site: "...I probably became a racist when living in Iraq, where I saw how Arabs and other of the kind are like, and in Norway as a kid having to relate to Gypsies stealing our toys..." LOL. poor guy.

    Soilwork - The Panic Broadcast

Well, the chorus in Two Lives Worth... is pretty gay IMO.

Why do all bands turn to sh**?

Why is it that almost every band turns to sh** after some time? It's like in the beginning they're all passionate and serious about their music, but once they have gained recognition they seem to lose focus and start to suck. Lately I've been let down by my two favourite bands/artists, that is...

Bands you like that everyone else hates

Camel were aweome in the 70s, then sucked in the 80s, they were incredibly cheesy. The last album, A Nod And A Wink, was atrocious. Rajaz was good though. KC also changed their style in the 80s, but Discipline, for example, was still "prog" and nothing like Camel's Breathless for example.
