BATHORY

isnt bathory a 16th century romanian countess or something??
mmh beats me.
i like classical music but i've never heard of her work. i'll definately check it out...

Probably the first band to make a pure serious Viking Metal album. When I say serious I mean to say it's not Manowar metal warriors corndog stuff. The guy made about 6 VM albums before he died of heart failure last year. Pretty good stuff if you don't mind it being a bit slower paced than black or death metal.

I love Bathory. Blood, Fire, Death; Nordland I & II, and Hammerheart are all great releases.

Nordland I is definately my favorite, though.

No, Quorthon cannot sing, and the mix isn't always picture-perfect in timing, but the music composition is very innovative.

Interestingly, most bands that do epic/Viking metal cite Bathory as a major influence, yet the band never really was all that popular in the public view.

Not true. Bathory sold a lot of records even back then.
