Connection adapters and sound quality

Im curious as to wether or not there is any audible disadvantage to using adapters such as XLR to TRS or something of the sort. Say for instance, your mic pre has XLR out, but your interface only has balanced TRS in. So you buy an adapter to make it work. Is there any real disadvantage here? As far as sound quality?

It's all the same, just a different connectors. Just get XLR to TRS cables and your good to go, that's how i connect most of my stuff to my ADI-8.

I personally don't like using adapters because they are bulky and inconvenient in most cases. Interfaces usually have TRS connections really close together and multiple adapters might not fit. A part from that, as long as it all stays balanced and you use quality components, it won't really affect the sound. This would be no different than using a patchbay which basically turns whatever connection (XLR, TRS, Soldered wires, etc) into another type of connection (TT or TRS).
