so i'm doing a bit of a project where i need to come up with a list of bands that represent their sub genres the best.

i'm trying to be as fair as possible and not let my personal taste weigh too much in what bands i include.

so, if you'd like throw me a list of 5-10 bands for the following genres (one, 3 or all, any input would help, i realize some of the genres i'm going to list aren't of any interest to many people) and keep in mind all representations (for example in black metal xasthur, mayhem and immortal are all significantly different from each other). and if possible, include older as well as newer bands (genre starters and current leaders)

here's the genres i have to work with:

Black metal
Death metal
Doom metal
Grindcore
Power Metal
Thrash Metal
Glam metal
Metalcore
Grunge
Hardcore Punk
Punk
Industrial Metal

thanks very much in advance if you do this.

also, if you want to give me your opinion on what some of the trademarks of each specific genre's are, then go for it.

ah, because we're talking the bigger genres, folk metal could be considered and/or grouped in with power metal or whatever other genres they include in their sound without much trouble.

it didn't occur to me that i should have put a disclaimer on this thread.

this has nothing to do with my personal taste, this was an assignment given to me by the E-zine i write for - i didn't choose the genre's.
