I would think Jage would want to actually use this language to speak to people, so Latin obviously wouldn't be a choice.

I'd suggest Russian as well. It's pretty trendy right now from what I've heard.

I'm only really interested in Russian or European languages, because my interest in cultures outside of those parts of the world is minimal.

I don't want to learn a classical language.

Take French and Spanish out of the equation, because although lots of people speak them, I want to start afresh and I've already started those at school.

In all seriousness if you don't want to take French or Spanish then Russian or German would probably be the best for European languages. They have the most speakers and a lot of classic literature.
