Everything I have is atleast 10 years old:
Carcass
Morbid Angel
Death
Obituary
Cannibal Corpse
Napalm Death

Yes they are some of most celebrated bands of the genre more than a decade ago. I'm not really just getting into it, I was more of a punk kid, who picked up an occasional DM cd when bored of punk; which were reccomended by a Metalhead friend. But I'm really just sort of a fringe. You know who I am, the geek in the back of the room at shows .

As I've heard Death Metal since then has really branched out, so to start from; who are the newest most celebrated DM bands, and what albums are their best?

BTW, I'm trying to stay away from huge retail stores and this whole metalcore fad. It's just that they only seem to know about computers and top 10 hits, and metalcore to me just seems fabricated by the big music industry.

Take a look around the forum, there's a couple of threads about death metal. Anyways, check these out:

Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
Mithras - Worlds Beyond The Veil
Arghoslent - Incorrible Bigotry
Appalling Spawn - Freedom, Hope & Fury
The Chasm - Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph
Gorguts - Obscura
Art 238 - Empire Of The Atom
Intestine Baalism - An Anatomy Of The Beast, Banquet In The Darkness

Deathevokation's Chalice of Ages is probably the best death metal album since the early 90s.

Decapitated - Winds Of Creation
Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb (It's deathgrind, like napalm death)
Suffocation - Pierced From Within (not that new, but it's great)
Cryptopsy - None So Vile (same)
Necrophagist - Onset Of Putrefaction (some people don't like it, but whatever)

Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus, The Apostasy

Bloodbath - Unblessing the Purity, The Fathomless Mastery

I fail. I missed where this said "Newest" most celebrated death metal albums.

Fuck it. Those albums kick too much ass to be ignored anyways.

Bloodbath, Behemoth. Wormed and Human Mincer are highly fellated among brutal death aficionados, and with good reason. Amon Amarth have turned out some highly worthwhile stuff in the last 10 years. Nile.

These are just some of the more popular ones. Also, most/all those mentioned previously in this thread.

Decapitated - Nihility
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis
Psycroptic - Scepter of the Ancients
Psycroptic - Symbols of Failure

Awesome recommendations! I generally hate Death Metal, but these bands are definately some of the exceptions.
