I've noticed that the Sansamp RBI seems to be a popular choice to get the bass tone that is pretty popular right now (the one that's been posted a million times in the MMF studio video). I enjoy that bass tone quite a bit, but I have the Sansamp RPM.

Does anybody have any tips on getting an RBI type tone from the RPM?

(I may eventually buy the RBI, but for the moment, I just cannot afford to.)

The RBI has a more modern scooped midrange aggressive type of tone. Our Bass Driver and RBI products are designed to get you that tone quickly. The RPM is a more open ended multi purpose preamp that has more midrange control. It does not have the "presence" control which gives the RBI more "sizzle".

The best thing to do would be to go to our support page and look up the manual for the RPM and try the "Fat Tube, SVT, Bassman & overdriven bass" settings which should get you close.
