What are some good non-death/black metal bands?

All I ever see on here are a bunch of death/black metal bands that I can NEVER get into...no matter how much I try. What are some good metal bands that don't have cookie monster or grandma with larangitis vocalists but have symphonic metal riffs and sh*t like that?

Just listen to some Symphony X, progressive neo classical metal. Extremely talented singer and guitar virtuoso.

Work your way through progressive and power metal, it's common knowledge mate. There are way too many bands to list, I might give you a small list tomorrow with info.

Symphonic riffs with clean vocals describes a lot of power metal, like Blind Guardian, Rapsody, Thy Majestie, etc.

-warlord (i'm not into the christian thing, but they are a good band)
-sacred steel
-virgin steele
-older stratovarius

not power, but not death or black metal:
-beyond the embrace
-the haunted
-iced earth
-the crown (do they count as death? i dont know. they arent like cannibal corpse and what not)

Iced Earth went from Thrash to Power/Thrash....

The Haunted are Swede melodic death (NOT THRASH), same with The Crown.

Beyond The Embrace? I dunno, haven't heard them.
