EDIT: 2ND MIX: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1261919/Cara Neir - 2012 d (2).mp3

No vocals in the mix yet.

I'm not sure about the low end or the level of the guitars. I have a feeling they're a bit low in the mix. I'm also going back and forth between making the kick higher and then lower in the last few revisions of my mix.

Any opinions are welcome.

FYI, I'm mixing on ATH-M50's and Dell speakers with a sub at the moment with 2 bass traps in the corners in front of me. Yeah, not the best monitoring situation.

Thanks! Occultist rules.

I have 3 of the room mics in the mix, each with a lot of 1176 style smashing. (I'm using Superior 2.0).

and some room verb + plate sends with the Snare and Toms sent to both just a bit. I could increase that.

Our latest full-length had a good dose of squashing, and I guess I naturally wanted to try the opposite this go around. So I wasn't sure if I should squash the mix further. I'm aiming for a little more Dynamic Range than most mixes today; it's currently hovering around 8. I had it around 6-7, but it sounded too squashed.

But I appreciate the advice, man. I'll tweak it with both tips in mind.

Increased the volume of my snare + toms on Room send. Increased overall volume of Mono Far mic (only has kick, snare, and toms fed to it inside Superior). Increased the level of all my cymbals in the Ambient Close channel by a little bit.

Compressed the Kick about 1-2 more dB for more solidity. Increased the compression on the Master Bus about a half dB more than before; it's getting 1.5-2 dB gain reduction now.

Also raised the guitars just a tad. Subtle differences overall, but I feel it helped.
