KAMELOT 2015 - New Album "HAVEN"

I have to second Palabria de Dios on this one. Tommy is certainly going for a similar sound to that of Khan, but he does have moments when he gets to throw in his unique stylings. Furthermore, this band has always been Thomas Youngblood's band, and he's no dummy. He's well aware of what brought this band increased success over the years. Of course, as is the case with any band that has to replace their singer, Kamelot is damned if they do and damned if they don't. If Khan was replaced by a singer who didn't sound anything like him, the fanboys would be extremely vocal in their distaste for someone who wouldn't even get the chance they deserved. On the flipside, anyone who sounds like Khan is immediately going to be dismissed as a clone. I personally feel that "Silverthorn" is the band's best release since "The Black Halo," and Tommy is one of the main reasons for that. I'm very much looking forward to "Haven."

Stay metal. Never rust.

Fourth Legacy and Black Halo? That's a strong sales pitch. Not that I needed to be pitched, but it does make me a little giddy inside.

Pretty excited about this. Went to their show last night in London and they played a song off it - first time to an audience. Sounded pretty solid. Would have purchased anyway due to them being one of the first metal bands I really got into.

As much as I have loved this band in the past I think they have been regurgitating the same musical ideas over and over for the last four albums. Nothing on the past four releases (Haven included) has come close to moving me the way The Black Halo, Epica, Karma, or The Fourth Legacy has. I am happy for their success and think Tommy does a wonderful job singing but this may be the first Kamelot release that I don't buy, I will have to wait until I hear more than two songs. They still put on a fabulous show and I would like to see them live, but I would just like to hear something different from them... hear them grow musically and as songwriters.

It sounds too similar to Sacrimony and less good (and I don't even like Sacrimony that much, although I was more impressed when that song came out than this one). I feel the same way as Azrael LenGraden about their last four albums not coming close to anything from The Fourth Legacy to The Black Halo. I'm dissapointed with the new single, I must say. It didn't give me a Fourth Legacy or Black Halo vibe as Youngblood described the album, more like a Poetry for the Poisoned or Silverthorn vibe. Maybe the rest of the album will be better...

I actually quite like the song on the first listen... very polished and smooth just as you'd expect from Kamelot. That said, I do agree that their sound/identity matured some time ago and peaked with the Black Halo. Everything since then has been very well done, but nothing new to my ears. That said, I like the sound and love the vocals, so more of the same isn't a bad thing for me.

I think the song is well written and well delivered. However, it's so paint by numbers, you feel as though you can see every note unfolding before it ever gets to your ear. Similarly, while Tommy sounds great, his vocals are so completely shoehorned into the Kamelot format, he merely sounds like a lesser version of Khan.

Well at least Napalm has the good sense to lead with a high energy power metal track rather than a mid-tempo sing-songy plodder.

I like it. Really stoked about this release. I get the complaints about the last few albums but they are all still fun to listen to.
