Bands similar to CoB?

Maybe someone can help me here. I used to have an album by a band who were Neo-classical metal (very similar/rip off of COB) They had a song called Mirror something something (No not Norther) I've been racking my mind for ages now. I also recall they had a music video in like an old school castle or something. And someone came through the mirror or something.

I thought you were thinking maybe of Mirror, mirror by Blind Guardian  it has those twin guitar classical melodies

Does anyone know this Band? Doesnt sound bad...

Saw them live in 2012 as Ensiferum's warmup. Thought they were great but couldn't google them as I'd forgotten the name by the time I got home. A friend recommended them to me in 2014, and I was surprised to realize I knew the songs. After some wondering I realized I'd seen them live. Anyway, I've been listening to them for around four years now, so yeah, I do know the band.

I actually have the lead guitarist's pick and the drummer's drumstick at home.

Hmmmm. I would say that it sounds like every band trying to do CoB, which is actually really far from what CoB actually makes. A comment comes back a lot in the video and I agree with it, it's more like the band All That Remains. Not really fan of this, but if it was written at 16, wow.

Doesn't sound anything like COB to me :D My own stuff sounds closer to COB IMO and, apart from having harsh vocals and being very melodic, I don't think it sounds a whole lot like them.

Norther was and is IMO the closest anyone has come to COB in terms of style.

ESA, I've heard a lot about Norther but never really tried to listen after I discovered a few "bad" songs from them. Could you eventually recommend me some "less-known" songs that you consider close to COB's?

Not sure how you can't hear any COB influence from that. Pedal point riffing ala Are you Dead Yet, sweep taps, bluesy soloing, there's even some sections that are just variations of Bodom riffs and licks. To me this is the closest in terms of getting into Alexi's mind frame when writing. Then again when US/UK bands tried to emulate Swedish/Finnish metal they just invented metalcore so I can see how it sounds more like Trivium/All that Remains etc than COB to some.

Norther comes very close too. They always lacked the technical proficiency thought when it came to emulating Alexi. Imperanon were a lot closer in that regard but they drifted into more Stratovarius style leads.

Hard to actually come up with a song that would sound "like" COB in that one might be fooled it was made by COB, but Norther has always mirrored COB with their own style IMO. Just like COB the first few albums are very melodic, and, as COB began to lose their melodies and go into a more thrash oriented style, so did Norther.

As for recommending song by them?

The "well-known hits" are, I guess:

Mirror of Madness (This one got me listening to them)
Death Unlimited (I really like the attitude in the vocals, otherwise the song isn't quite worthy of it's fame IMO)
Frozen Angel (Not a big fan of this song personally)
We Rock

My personal favorites would be something like this (Divided by album (And though the albums are in release order, they also happen to be in quality order; the first one is the best one, the last one is the worst one (Though I skipped their 4th and 6th albums entirely))):

Darkest Time
Released
Endless War
Victorious One

Blackhearted
Betrayed
Midnight Walker
Mirror of Madness

Deep Inside
Death Unlimited
Hollow
Going Nowhere

Saviour
We Rock
C.U.S.

Dreams of Endless War is definitely one of my favorite MDM albums ever, possibly even eclipsing FTR in that regard. Instrumentally it's hard to say which band I prefer but I really love Petri's lyrics most of the time, they are so freaking angry and "badass" :D

No band shall ever be greater than or equal to..... children of bodom..... from 1997 to 2003.... after that .... just no.

Wait wait wait... What epic Song is this from Kalmah, Refrain starts @2 min :yow:

Have to give props to you finnish guys. Only available in Finland

Just sharing a band I discovered really recently. It doesn't sound really CoB-ish, it's more like "Wintersun meets Movie soundtracks", but I thought it might be the type of things people on this forum would enjoy. It's only instrumentals and it's a one man band, but god, I love that.

@Joonas I think you might actually enjoy the "atmosphere" in this.

The snare is too loud and I miss the vocals but otherwise this is really damn good. Reminds me of Euphoreon:

I think the music is a bit different, but that's exactly the type of vocals I'd like to hear on Nahtram. Really close to Jari Maenpaa's. Lot of really unknown bands out there that really do some great Melodic Death.

They have some songs which I think are perhaps a bit closer to Nahtram, but I couldn't choose which one to choose so I ended up posting their best song, which, again, I failed as I couldn't choose that one either so I ended up just posting the opening track of the new album :D

I would never have heard of them had I not checked Arcane's drop box for COB tabs and discovered that he has a near full album of Euphoreon tabs there was well (The only band that doesn't have anything to do with COB that he has there). That's quite high praise so I checked them out and ended up becoming a fan though I though they'd quit years ago (7 years with very little activity between album 1 and 2) :D
