I've been there twice. Both times I thought I saw assigned folding chairs in the front pit section. I could be mistaken though.
I found DT on Gigantour to sound decent enough, but it was very very obvious that their set was rushed, that they were trying to squeeze in as many notes as possible into 90 minutes. However, I enjoyed the hell out of their show for some reason.

Ok thanks, I think it depends on the show then. I was on their website and the Dave Mathews band is playing there and there will be a GA pit for that. Im praying there will be one for this show! Im gonna join the fan club too, so I can get the pre-sale tix

I only saw DT one time at the Riviera in Chicago for the TRAIN OF THOUGHT tour.
They were SO lame and non-energetic.
It just seemed more like a party with a band playing in the background than an actual concert.
Very weird.
Curious what kind of set DT will pull out for this.

Ah. I wasn't a fan of them back then. Also didn't know about them then. I think they're more well suited for actual theater venues, which is why I said I don't like them playing in these high scale venues. What I like about them is what I like about Pearl Jam. They constantly change their sets (though not as much on the last tour) and every one I've gone to has been different.
I would assume though that the type of set will be fairly similar to when they were playing on Gigantour and they'll play their heaviest stuff. If they play any of their pure prog rock/ballady type stuff they'll get eaten alive.

Agreed, this is something I respect 100%.
I wish more bands would do this.
Grateful Dead can play 3 nights never repeating a song.
I wish more bands would be more concerned with being a true live act that can pull out ANY song from their catalog, as opposed to relying on hits.
That's what makes a casual fan a true FAN of a band.
Sorry, but I think all the people who bitched about Maiden doing AMOLAD in its entirety are "Casual" Maiden fans at best. A true "fan" should not have been disappointed.

For the record, I am not implying that there is anything wrong with being a "casual" fan of a band. Just saying that such discussions are what separates a true fan from a casual fan.
There are many bands I like that I will wholeheartedly admit to being a casual fan of and would really prefer a "best of" type set to a "play the whole new album" set.

Well, while I can't say I am thrilled, I wouldn't say it's the worst choice in the world. Better than the past couple of tours. Maiden are certainly a major influence to DT, and this tour is on DT's home turf......

As those of us know that venue is terrible, but your best hope is to get closer to the sound.I advise people to get up close at the sad excuse for a venue, First Midwest. I saw the Dio/Motorhead/Maiden show there in about the 10th row and the sound was decent up close.
In terms of DT's setlist: they know the types of fans that will be present that this show and they will adjust accordingly. It's not like their whole catalog is one style. I'll be curious if they do a jam at the end like they did with Queensryche or like they did with Cemetary Gates on Gigantour.
I'm also interested to hear some comments from Bruce on how this evolved. I'm sure he had a big hand in this. We know Maiden influenced DT, but I'm fairly sure recent Maiden is a bit inspired by DT. Back in the early 90s Bruce had cited part of his frustration and break up with Maiden was the Maiden's early 90s direction. He had stated that he wished Maiden was doing some things like DT. I'd be curious how many "Iron Maiden" fans enjoy their catalog from Brave New World to the present. Their recent material definitely has more progressive influences/tendencies.

Dream Theater...fuck yeahhhhh! IM will be the band with the same setlist every night. DT will have a different one every night, and they will kill! They will bring their heavier stuff for sure. Great choice!

Interesting interview. Not great but interesting. I figured Bruce was a major player as he is on the Official Live Bootleg of DT at the House of Blues, so I figured they were friends.

I really like Brave New World and Dance of Death. Not a fan of AMOLAD, though. I think there's only two songs on AMOLAD that I actually like. But the other two albums get a lot of play time in my car. About as much as their "classic" albums, I would guess.

NO!!!!!! I love Dream Theater, hell I even like them more than Maiden (here comes the ridicule) but while I own that album, it doesn't work. They only have one guitarist and James cannot do Bruce to save his life. Oddly enough though, I thought the Master of Puppets bootleg they did worked very well.

I thought James did alright on that album, though he is not Bruce. Nor is Bayley or Matos. Still not sure how those three became the finalists to replace Bruce. I can think of a few others that at the time I'd rather have seen get the job that Bayley won.

I'm annoyed only because I'll be in London and Amsterdam for the entire part of the east coast tour. I'm glad I got to see them twice on the Back in Time tour.
