Dream Evil cancel PPUSA, Replacement Announced

When I first "renewed" my gold badges (I think renewed would be the right word), Dream Evil was the band that really sold me this year. Luckily for me, Ihsahn was added and they became reason enough for me to attend, no matter what additional bands were playing. So instead of devastated, I'll settle with extremely bummed. Guess it all works out in the end.

Dream Evil was going to be fun but from the clips posted, it sounds like Forbidden is going to be fun too. I'm down.

One of the primary functions of governments are to make people jump through hoops in order to impede freedom of movement, so this is no huge surprise, but you'd think Dream Evil, having done it before, would have been aware of the rigmarole and been able to work through it. I was certainly looking forward to seeing Dream Evil, but the addition of Forbidden is pretty awesome, and coincidentally I've been listening to Omega Wave quite a bit in my car recently. So any setlist predictions? I'm guessing it will be heavy on Omega Wave and the first 2 albums, like their recent tour and festival sets?

Not sure what I can contribute here that hasn't already been said but I too was looking forward to seeing Dream Evil but I just cannot begin to understand their lacksadaisical (Pellaz help me out here, that's a big word and I was publicly educated in Texas) approach to a process that was of obvious critical importance. So be it. They not only screwed over Glenn and the fans here but also themselves as they lost a chance to make a rare (don't know if they've ever been in the States or not) appearance on these shores at a very well-respected US festival that most likely would have paved their way for a bigger exposure to the US market.

However, I am abslutely on board with Forbidden as a replacement. The new Omega Wave album kicks ass. They passed through Texas twice on tour and I missed them both times due to being out of town or out of the country. And I had pretty much written off the chance to see them until the next album/tour. But Christmas comes early this year! For folks in attendance who feel tempted to dismiss this band, please don't. I truly think they will pleasantly surprise many of you!

Glenn, once again many thanks for your hard work, dedication, and your uncanny ability to withstand sucker punch after sucker punch from incidents like these! Glenn > Rocky!

just go to metalsetlist.com and look at the past year of shows....it is pretty much a great mix of old and new.

Yep... I saw the same on setlist.fm as well. I usually like bands to play a good mix of all their albums, but in this case I'm OK with not having much from Distortion or Green, since I somehow never wound up getting those albums back in the day anyway, heh. :)

me either....I listened to a few songs on youtube from those disc and nothing stood out. The first time I saw them they played a few from those but last time they did one song.

This sucks so much! I know it isn't the promoters fault but I am extra pissed because I bought my plane tickets yesterday to fly from san francisco and the main reasons for me wanting go all that way by myself was mob rules, therion, and Dream Evil. I like forbidden but being from the bay area I have probably seen them 10 to 15 times already. I am gunna have to think long and hard if its worth the trip now (if my plane tickets are even refundable). hopefully this means labyrinth move up a slot in the line up or something.

Seriously? Dude, you will have approximately ZERO chance to see Therion in the US again. That alone should justify the trip.

ya I know. I got a chance to see therion on their last U.S tour and it was amazing! right now I am just a little shocked with the whole thing, but i'll get over it. I have been listening to dream evil non stop for a couple months I just hope the songs get out of my head now.

Ok so one band out of the three you wanted to see canceled. Well suck it up, don't be a crybaby and come to the very best festival in the country.

Canceling the trip over ONE band out of 16 is dumb. Sorry.

ProgPower is so much more than just the bands that are performing. It's a nonstop party and you will have the time of your life. Suck it up and come experience the best Festival in the U.S. for yourself!

agreed. Those were the three main bands I wanted to see but I am looking forward to a bunch more. Your use of peer pressure and the word crybaby is commendable.

The Dream Evil thing I'll leave alone...

I saw Forbidden for the first time last year (I think it was last year) I have been into this band since 'Forbidden Evil' so it was really cool to finally see them live. Must admit that Overkill stole the show though. But it will be nice to see Forbidden do a longer set, seems Raleigh was really short and not enough classics.
It is cool to see a thrash band on the fest, though I would have preferred Powermad (never seen them live) HAHA.
Think this year would be the most interesting year to watch the crowd's reactions with While Heaven Wept and now Forbidden; it will certainly be interesting.

I am super bummed about Dream Evil as they were my most anticipated band for Sat. That said, I am over the moon that I get to see Sanctuary AND Forbidden at the fest. They are both important bands in my 80s musical journey so I am stoked! I imagine that there has been some stress for everyone involved. Hopefully it is smooth sailing from her on out.

(Crap, I hope I didn't jinx it)

Though I like Dream Evil and have all of their CDs - where the &*(# was I when Forbidden was mentioned on any webzine. I actually prefer music on the more thrash end of the scale though I prefer cleaner vocals with my thrash. I view this as an upgrade except I will have to go buy some CDs.....

Sorry to Glenn for the (almost annual) changes beyond his control - but kudos for dealing as always (for me CAGE was a major upgrade to the bands lost). But, I know the feeling when a band you were looking forward to cancels (Turisas...).
