Sounds to me like they knew Alexi was going to pass imminently and the other members wanted to retain the rights after he was gone. Alexi probably wanted to rock out as COB until his last days but new members would cause legal issues for years to come?

It's probably as close as you can get with that gear. But nothing accurately achieves Alexi's tone except the lee jackson preamp, imo.

I kinda like Payback. It's a fun, unmistakably Laiho song that should be fun to play.

Literally every concert before Alexi broke his arm, around the time of AYDY I think, the solos were played well.

That's all well and good except Alexi hasn't produced magic since almost two decades now. At least let the other members write a song or two on their own. Anything else is worth a try IMO because if Alexi continues his musical dictatorship in COB we'll continue to be underwhelmed.
